Ware still in the news

Eric Ware works out at Clarke Park during the Edmonton Eskimos rookie camp on June 3.

Eric was injured during Friday’s rookie camp. So, just three days in, he was sidelined with a leg injury.

And it can’t be bad to be included – first – in a list like this:

…but rookie camp showed lots of promise in the likes of Eric Ware, Willie Thornton, Alan Turner, Jason Barnes and few were better than Jamaica Rector…

There have only been two days in the Edmonton Eskimos rookie camp, but Ware has already shown "flashes of brilliance" according to this story from The Vancouver Sun. OR, you could read the same story with this title:

CFL defensive backfields be-Ware

"Eric Ware is somebody we’re going to keep an eye on," Eskimos general manager Danny Maciocia said of the recruit.

"He’s a sub-4.4-second guy and he’s electric when he carries the ball. Yes, he’s undersized, but you’ll see it in camp, he is put together," added Maciocia.

"He’s a strong physical kid who, pound for pound, can compete. When he has the rock in his hands, he tends to do something exciting." The new GM wasn’t kidding. Ware was one of several receivers to show flashes of brilliance during the first day of Eskimos rookie camp, and he’s confident.

Martin signs Martin

April Martin from Yellville-Summitt has signed her LOI to run track at UCA next year. Martin apparently impressed coach Richard Martin enough to offer her a scholarship after her third-place finish in the state heptathlon last week. According to the story in the Baxter Bulletin, April is expected to focus on the 800 and the triple-jump.

"She set a state record in the triple jump," [track and field coach Allen] Gustin said, "and she qualified in the long jump, triple jump and 800 (meters) at the Meet of Champs. She came in second in the 800 and ran a 2:18. She came in fifth in the long and triple jump at the Meet of Champs. She’s just a super kid, and she’s been a lot of fun to be around. You’d never have to worry about her skipping an event. She was always ready to go and worked real hard."

April also played basketball and softball at Y-S.

Bears and the NFL/CFL

A writer/blogger for the Houston Chronicle says to watch Jacob this season.

Five Who Are Under The Radar

Jacob Ford, DE, Tennessee: Ford has terrific edge speed and was a major factor in the Titans pass rush over the second half of the season compiling 7 sacks over his last 9 games. Ford could hit double digit sacks this year.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats will play in a preseason game on June 17. Former Bears play for both teams: Winnipeg, Jasper Johnson; Hamilton, Aaron Fairooz. It was reported that Johnson signed on May 26, and Fairooz followed on May 29th.

There haven’t been many/any updates on either Marquez Branson with the Broncos or Nathan Brown with the Saints. If you know of anything, please let us know on the message board.
