Chappell’s comments
Well, for those of us without an ADG subscription and who haven’t seen this yet, Coach Chappell was re-quoted by a Springfield newspaper:
“I feel like they made a bad decision, an unnecessary decision,” Chappell told the Arkansas Democrat Gazette. “For the past four years, this has been a bottom-30 job — because of the limitation of no postseason play.
“The second the buzzer sounded (following the final game) it became a great job. Just for somebody else,” Chappell added.

“I hate that we never got a chance to play on a level playing field,” Chappell said. “The transition period was tough on everybody, but in basketball it makes it incredibly tough to recruit when you take away the postseason play.”
UCA was 61-28 in Chappell’s first three seasons in Conway, making the NCAA Division II tournament in 2004-2005 after going 23-8.
“As I told the administration earlier, my goal as a head coach was to coach at the Division I level and make the NCAA Tournament,” Chappell said. “But, during the transition, it was going to be a rough period.”

I take that as a self admission that he was a bottom-30 coach. Glad he’s gone with an attitude like that. To paraphrae a quote – he built it but they didn’t come. 268 grand goes a long way while unemployed. Must be rough.
