The game will be on ESPN3.

I am looking forward to this one. Two high flying offenses and a former head coach... We will be out for blood on Saturday. This game is on the road and that worries me. SFA seems like a trap game. I think a few years ago when we were off to a good start and went to SFA in the rain and lost... I hope the win against Nicholls was what brought us over the hump and we are going to crush conference.

No offense to CC and the Lumberjacks being 3-1, but I think
the Bears schedule has been a little tougher. I hope this will
give UCA a slight edge on Saturday. I know the Jacks have
A quality running back who will give the defense some problems.
And clint's passing game is always a challenge...but I like the
Bears to win this one 42-27.

We should have no trap games......every game means the difference between playoffs or not......I'll take a 7-6 win and be very happy......note that Week 6 FCS poll has Bears with 2 votes and SFA with 1......hard for either team to move up with a win but lose and you are out of sight and out of mind with the voters....the rain game was a hurricane almost...last one with the ball won as I recall.....

UCA is one made 53 yard field goal away from being 3-2 and ranked in the top 25 IMO. Toughest schedule yet and SFA is riding momentum with a new coach.

Wish I could be there. :(

According to Sagarin, Foot is dead on.......SFA strength of schedule among all D1 teams is 229 vs 167 for Bears.....excluding Nicholls, Bears SOS is 115....

By the way, SOS for Nicholls is #50......

should be a fun game. At least we won't need a boat this year.

Hope he doesn't get the ball. I don't know why exactly but Gus hasn't been getting the carries that we expected. He's only averaging around 14 a game. He only had 12 after our last game against Weber State and Conque said in the postgame that the team will go as Gus goes...so I'm expecting (hoping) that means he'll get a bigger load the rest of the season. Cause he's been a beast so far when he does get the ball. Tied for first in the nation right now with 9 TDs (with one less game than the other leaders) and is averaging 8.5 per carry and 123 ypg.

Should be a great game and I'm really excited for it, just wish I could go. You guys have had a pretty tough schedule, outside of Nicholls (I wish they weren't in our conference). Our game against Weber was tougher than you'd think. They are 0-5 so you'd think they are terrible, but that has come against Arizona State, North Dakota State, Sac State and us.

Good luck to you guys, and safe travels to anyone coming down to Nac. Hopefully we don't get 9 inches of rain this time! It's actually going to be sunny with a high of 77, so should be perfect.

Yes I'm traveling to SFA Saturday. So far I'm going by myself. I have a Hyundai Santa Fe' that seats 4 comfortably. I'd like to get a start from the Farris Center no later than 11 O'clock. The Bear SUV is clean and ready to go. Anyone interested? if so PM me. Go Bears

I sure hope we have some option ready for this game. Best I can recall, I never saw coach Willie exhibit any ability to defend the option. Nor did he display any willingness to make defensive adjustments to address the option. I'd put Reed in the game and tell him to play option football untill they showed the ability to stop it. But that's just me........I could be wrong.

Stats overview.....

SFA vs UCA

Rushing: 5.9 avg/197 per game vs 3.6/152
Rush defense: 3.0/110 vs 4.1/183
Passing: 107-162-4 -7.3-295 yds vs 132-208-4-6.7-277
Pass defense: 94-162-5-6.2-250 vs 109-154-4-9.0-296
KO returns: 13-180-13.8 vs 24-524-21.8
KOR defense: 17-458-26.9 vs 28-575-20.5
3rd down/4th down: 36%/40% vs 45%/75%
3rd/4th defense: 33/40 vs 77/83
Red Zone scoring: 75% vs 93%
RZ defense: 71% vs 86%
Best quarter scoring: Q1/35-10 vs Q4 64-39 (Bears lose Q1 24-37)

Top Jacks:

Gus Johnson: 8.5/rush for 123 per game
Zach Conque: 121 efficiency/60% completion/188 yds
Joe Minden: 162/75%/103
Tyler Boyd; 64/game receiving
Aaron Thomas: 70/game
DJ Ward: 49/game
Collin Garrett: 43 tackles
Team: 15 sacks and 9 TFL

Thoughts...

SFA: Run game advantage ....they avg 197 and we give 183....we avg 152 they give 110...Johnson avg 8.3 per carry

SFA: Pass slight advantage.....they avg 295 and we give 296....we avg 277 and they give 250.....

UCA: Special teams advantage....KO returns to UCA and punting to UCA....

UCA: 3rd/4th conversions slight advantage... Bears offense higher % but UCA defense gives up high % also...

UCA: Red zone slight advantage...Bears offense storng but defense also gives up high %

UCA: Bears penalized about half of what SFA gives up....

Keys to game:

Bears mute SFA tendency to win Q1 and build lead, slow down Johnson, tackle better and limit 10+ yard gains, avoid TOs and win kicking game

SFA establish run game and keep Bears defense on their heels with typical CCC screen game, reduce penalties,, slow down Bears in red zone..FGs instead of TDs....

Big game for both..... lots of emotion due to CCC switching teams......UCA QBs need much better game passing and repace under throws with downfield receptions....Bears usually play well on the road......

Series:

UCA leads 5-3 with 2-2 at SFA

9/23/06 Nacogdoches, Texas W, 37-35
11/10/07 Conway W, 35-23
11/15/08 Nacogdoches, Texas W, 49-41
10/17/09 Conway L, 30-33
10/16/10 Nacogdoches, Texas L, 7-30
10/1/11 Conway W, 38-28
9/29/12 Nacogdoches, Texas L, 37-42
10/25/13 Conway W, 66-31
