Noticed there was no link to UCAFANS.com.
Any idea why not?

SLC Preseason Polls

We are picked 5th and 6th in the Preseason SLC polls. Looks like one person has some deep respect for us by picking us to finish 1st. This should be some nice motivation for the guys!

Zack Conque On his goals for the season:
“I want to be more of a leader. Growing up around UCA great Nathan Brown, I’ve tried to pattern my game after him. He worked incredibly hard day in and day out, and that is an attitude I’ve tried to embrace. As far as goals, I don’t have many individual ones. My goals are the collective team goals. I want to win our home opener, I want to keep the Chief (Caddo) in Nac and I want to pull one out down at the Piney Woods. Obviously after that we want to win conference and make a run in the playoffs.”

Some rather nice words from SLC media days from an old familiar face.

On another note I find it very motivating for the team this year on where they got picked. Middle of the pack hopefully lights fires under our guys. I believe we wouldnt have it any other way.

Nathan Brown was the man! I hope one day we have another one identical to him. My favorite pic/poster ever is the one down by the locker room that shows Nathan walking up to the huddle, looking down at his play selection on his wrist while all the big O Lineman are standing there with there hands on their hips looking "down" at him waiting on the play call, ready for battle. I wish I had a copy of that poster for the house.

I think the players & coaches are already very motivated. Their record last year was not indicative of their talent, IMO and they will play with a chip on their shoulder & bring it in Alabama. Just have to get it figured out on defense & their is talent on that side of the ball. Got to get off to a good start & build some confidence. Great home schedule & plenty of offense, can't wait to catch a few games next year.

Regarding the polls, it is not how you start, but how you finish.
The Bears should finish much higher....

Previous post is correct about it being a GREAT home schedule, and it is, considering we don't play at home until October.

I like this team and their chances. :)

Polls give us all something to talk about in August which we are doing.....SLC is a very good league and lots of teams including the Bears can end up on top...... agree Bears were better than record last year.....and would have made a territfic playoff team had they been able to sneak in....the guys just need to work hard in August and focus on an opening win at Samford....one step at a time....

And, welcome newly committed Bear Breylin Smith of Conway......HUDL link below..

I can see several reasons why Coach would be glad for him to be a Bear..6'3 190....

http://thecabin.net/sports/2015-08-01/mccollums-column-talk-fashion-mentors-and-respect-slc-media-day

"Lamar finished 8-4 last season and 5-3 in the Southland, tying Stephen F. Austin and UCA for third. The Cardinals are picked eighth in preseason polls.

“In all honesty, I think we could have won the league last year and still would’ve been picked eighth this year,” said wide receiver Reggie Begelton. “We have no respect in this league, but until we consistently start beating everyone, this is going to continue to happen.”

“I’ve never seen a preseason champion banner hanging in anyone’s stadium,” added defensive back Xavier Bethany."

I understand you can get from UCA at $70 per ticket.

http://thecabin.net/sports/2015-08-12/ucas-campbell-likes-his-conway-connection

UCA football led the Southland Conference in APR (Academic Progress Rate, which measures graduation and retention) for the fifth year in a row with .960 out of a possible 1,000 points.

“This season, our All-American defensive end, Jonathan Woodard, already has his bachelor’s degree in his back pocket and is on his way to his MBA,” Campbell said, “Kyle Stouffer, a senior offensive lineman who will get his chance to play in the NFL if he has the kind of season I think he can, will have his MBA in his pocket by Christmas. Our goal every year is to win every game and graduate every senior. Our players are doing it in the classroom as well as on the field.”
