I watched every snap. Sam was completely overmatched in toughness and physical presence.

Shows that we are definitely doing the right thing in building a more physical type team.

SLC teams have not fared well over the past decade when going up against tougher and more physical teams from the power conferences.

if we would have had any pass defense even resembling the James Madison secondary we would still be playing football. The cold was a factor but Sam didn't have any receivers open all night. We MUST make improvements in this area. What would have been an interesting match up would have been Wofford and our run defense. They were last in the nation in passing.

FCS Week 15

Sagarin: 4-1/115-41

FCS Playoffs- Round 3: (SOS follows conference)

#5 Sam Houston State (SLC, 204) at #4 James Madison (Colonial,192) by 3, 7-65
#8 South Dakota State (MVC,128) at #1 North Dakota State (MVC, 105) by 12, 10-36
Wofford (Southern, 143) at Youngstown State (MVC, 133) by 5, 23-30, 2OTs
Richmond (Colonial, 180) at #2 Eastern Washington (Big Sky,147) by 17, 0-38

Others Games:
#25 Navy by 16 vs Army (at Baltimore), 17-21...Army breaks 14 game loss streak to Navy

FCS Games Notes:
James Madison rushed for 356 and threw for 251 (607) and SHS only 112/158/270......Briscoe was 13/44........only 30%!!!! Dukes has to RBs with over 140 yards rushing!!

EWU passed for 297 and ran for 154 (351 total) and Gubrud was 21/32 and 3 TDs.........Spiders were anemic with 48 yds rushing and 157 thru air (205 total) with 4 TOs.....

Saw some of the NDSU vs SDSU game..........Jacks got out to 10-0 lead but Bisons just slowly gathered steam and rather routinely put them away in H2.........NDSU out rushed SDSU by 302-37 (enough said) and had passing advantage of 188-155.......

Not sure I have ever seen a college box score where a team had zero yards passing........even Georgia Tech and their run option offense gets pretty good passing yards........Terriers out rushed Penguins 297-256 but YSU had 173-0 pass advantage with 3 TDs......Wofford punter avg a solid 44+..........

None of the games were plagued by penalties......must not have had Southland officials......

FCS Week 16

Sagarin: 0-2/115-43

FCS Playoffs- Round 4: (SOS follows conference)

#4 James Madison (Colonial,175) at #1 North Dakota State (MVC, 100) by 7, 27-17

Dukes total offense 440 vs 350 and held NDSU to only 130 rushing (3.9 per rush).........Bisons were only 7/18 on 3rd downs

Youngstown State (MVC, 128) at #2 Eastern Washington (Big Sky,147) by 8, 40-38

Penguins score 20 in Q4 to come from behind. Trailed 24-17 at half (sounds familiar). YSU total offense of 510 vs 480 with 260 rushing. EWU threw for 385. YSU scored twice in four minutes early in Q4 to take 34-31 lead but EWO dives 80 yards to take lead 38-34 with 4:24 to go. YSU then returns kick and then drives to winning score with 6 seconds left.

FCS Championship Game
Toyota Stadium
Frisco, Texas

Youngstown State 14 (12-4) (60th ranked in D1)
James Madison 28 (14-1) (39th ranked)

(JMU was 6 point favorite based in Sagarin ratings)

Stats are telling...............one team ran 79 plays for 292 yards and the other only 57 plays for 257.......one team completed 28 passes and the other only 7......only one turnover <stats show one but news story says 2???>........only 75 yards of penalties......

Of course, it was the Dukes who ran only 57 plays, completed only 7/12 passes and had no TOs.....passed for two TDs and ran for two others.......started fast with 14 in Q1 scoring at 12:15 mark and at 9:45 ............blocked a punt on Penguins first possession and takes two plays to score from YSU 18........next possession YSU punts only 20 yards to 50 and JMU takes only 5 plays t score........ Penguins had their longest drive of the day in 13 plays and 87 yards in Q4 to score with 17 seconds remaining to make it more respectable....Dukes scored after a blocked punt , a short punt and an INT in YSU territory plus one long 13 play/87 yard drive............

James Madison claims second FCS title

James Madison Athletics

FRISCO, Texas — James Madison held Youngstown State to 292 total yards on Saturday afternoon and rolled to a 28-14 victory, as the Dukes captured the 2016 NCAA Division I Football Championship, the second title in program history.

The Dukes, who finished the season 14-1 and undefeated against FCS foes, saw their defensive line dominate from start to finish, holding the Penguins (12-4) to just 21 rushing yards after YSU entered the contest averaging 257.5 yards on the ground.

Senior linebacker Gage Steele paced an all-around dominant performance by the JMU defense, racking up six tackles, including five solo stops, a pair of sacks and a pass breakup as the Dukes forced a pair of crucial turnovers in the third quarter to put the game away.

No defensive player had more tackles for the Dukes than junior defensive back Jordan Brown's seven, but nine different players had at least three, while sophomore defensive back Curtis Oliver picked off his second pass of the season and sophomore Darrious Carter scooped up a fumble.

Senior running back Khalid Abdullah ended his career in style, rushing 26 times for 101 yards and a pair of scores for an afternoon that put him atop the JMU record books in career touchdowns, single-season touchdowns and single-season rushing yards.

The Dukes needed just 12 passes to take home the trophy, as junior quarterback Bryan Schor went 7-of-12 for 112 yards with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns to junior tight end Jonathan Kloosterman and senior wide receiver Rashard Davis.

JMU put the Penguins in an early hole, as Abdullah stretched the lead to 21-0 on a 1-yard touchdown plunge with 8:17 to play before halftime, though YSU responded with a touchdown of its own less than five minutes later.

Abdullah scored from two yards out with 10:10 to play in the third quarter for an advantage that proved to be all the Dukes' defense needed, as Youngstown State managed just one more scoring drive that ended with 10 seconds left before the final whistle.

<Trivia.......YSU had a 75% win/loss percent this season.......UCA was 77%>
