Fall camp has opened for UCA Football and not a peep out of anyone so far...
Nothing on the fan site and zero on the official UCA sports website.

Here's how our schedule stacks up in Massey Ratings along with our chances of winning each game according to them:

Against all Division I opponents we play this year:

Guys, I still use #2 pencils...............by the way, the ranking make no sense to me.......it shows us at 127 to start yet it picks us 9-2............we do that and we will be about 90.........or better.............let's beat some Wildcats first........Go Bears!!

I think that has to do with the fact we play teams that are ranked like this:

#276
#234
#226
#270
#243
#281
#264

Hard to put someone in the FBS ranks when they only play bottom rung FCS teams for the majority of the season. Notice Sammy isn't that much ahead of us and we are just outside the FBS 125.

Speaking of......I've been two days now.

Here's my take.

As usual when it comes to fall camp the defense has the edge.

But....and you are going to LOVE this...

We have a squad of receivers that are going to blow your frickin mind!

WRs Cox, Gordon, Dillard, and Moore are their usual experienced selves that are very reliable. It's great to have that solid leadership there.

WR #88 Winningham is 6'5" and not only creates 2 yards of separation between him and the defender with his speed but catches everything! It's almost not fair!

WR #82 Joe Hampton is so fast and plays all out! The speed is incredible. Never a let down on any play I saw both days.

Ok. Ok. Here's the one that will make Bear fans happy.

Mitchell Perkinson- the 5"11" transfer from Oklahoma State. When I first saw him I thought this kid doesn't compare to the other tall receivers in height or speed. Then I got to see him on two plays where he showed why OK State wanted him. He ran straight up the field, cut left, then right, hesitated then ran left. The DB was so confused! It was like he was predicting the DBs next move, watched which side he shifted his weight to, then altered his steps to create imbalance. Dude is cerebral. He just seems like one of those guys you'd hate to play chess with because he already has his next 3 moves planned and is bored waiting on you to move.

A few other receivers impressed for sure. Recruiting is going well in that area. Wish I could remember every one of them.

Don't get me wrong the DBs made some killer knock downs too. I really believe we will be better at that position this year.

RBs are the fastest I've ever seen at UCA. The holes opened up by the Oline is promising. The DLine guys though are very strong and are winning the bull in the ring competitions it looks like.

I will write more tomorrow when I am not on an iPad.

How many of you are doing the Bear Nation Celebration? I think I can do it this year for the first time.

Thanks for the practice update BC...Good to hear news from someone that
has a first hand look.

The Bear secondary has been a little suspect for a few years now. How do
you feel about the guys this year?

The Bears secondary cant be to suspect. We have three of the pre season all conference slots locked up (George Odum, Tre SMith, Jaylon Lofton) and two pre season all american spots locked up (George Odum, Tre SMith) If our secondary is bad this year I would hate to see a great secondary.

I think a lot of it has to do with us putting them guys on an island. We only see the big plays made on them. Most of the time they're solid. The picture looks bright to me for the secondary this year.

Thanks for your input...Odum is a linebacker by the way and as good a player
for his size that I have ever seen.
I also agree that the secondary was put on an island all year but never the less
they gave up some big plays.
Sam Houston torched the Bears time and time again but once they reached the
playoffs Sam was shut down by guys that could cover.
I don't see a change in philosophy for the defense...Coach Campbell believes
in stopping the run and making teams beat you with the pass.
I am not calling anyone out...heaven knows I couldn't cover a wet blanket when
I played, I'm just hoping UCA has developed some good cover guys to compliment
the front 7. Hoping for the best as always...
