What's y'alls thoughts on the 2017 slate? It would seem the Bears really catch a break this season having SHSU, Mcneese SELA and SFSU all at home with the majority of the preseason bottom dwellers all on the road

Ramblin,

We are optimistic toward our season. Though as a fan of the team I will admit after watching the first scrimmage we really really need to improve on the passing defense. If Sam Houston throws like they did last year, then we will have to hope for an upset along the way for them. I expect my Bears to go 8-1 in conference but the other teams have also gotten better so even 7-2 is a possibility. Love the home games though. They are still going to be tough. McNeese has more success on our field than they do theirs when we go there. I'm just excited to get the tailgate stash out again, dust it off, and get ready for a GREAT season win or lose!

Bears have a great home schedule this year. Hopefully they will have an injury
free season and make another run at the conference title and another
playoff appearance.

I agree with BC...secondary needs to be better this year.

Giving up 8 tds in the first scrimmage raises a lot of questions...
But I guess that the QBs and recievers are executing at a very high level and
that's a good thing.

Sounds like scrimmage today was pretty solid...........want to see a shut down level defense who can just stop the other guys..........offense getting lots of hype......defense seems to be progressing.........hope Foot or someone else got there to see and give us a first hand report.........

Sounds like Coach was very pleased with the scrimmage on Saturday. Bears
seem to be making steady progress and the extra time will help as he said.

It's also good to hear that the running game now has some guys that can get
to the edge a little bit. That will increase the options in the play calling book
up a notch or two.

I wish the scrimmage would have been on Friday...I was there all day for my
sons graduation. I would have loved to have seen the Bears in action.

So why did the CB/DB wear a red jersey and why did they constantly throw over him at will? Was there a point to that?

That should be a whale of an opening game for each............not often to have a FCS Top 10 matchup the first week........should give our coaches some pretty good scouting material..........

By the way, Villanova is FCS #9............I saw them play their first round playoff game last fall....they looked a lot like UCA in many regards....... we look faster but they had a hoss of an NFL-style TE who could do it all..........both had very good QBs .........not sure what voters see to put them at #9 and Bears at #15...........but they are very good.............

Any obvious FBS upsets this week? Iowa State probably needs to start fast vs Northern Iowa......for sure, Mizzou better get going and not give Maroon Bears any hope..........Mo-State coach was long time MU defensive coach when Tigers were putting two DEs a year into NFL.....

Anyone taking Florida State over Bama?

What about A-State over the Huskers?
