Road to the Championship
http://www.ncaa.com/championships/football/fcs/road-to-the-championship

National Participation
There are 125 NCAA member institutions that sponsor Division I Football Championship Subdivision teams and are eligible to compete in the National Championship. All 125 programs support approximately 13,000 Football student-athletes across the country.

Selection Process
The NCAA Division I Football Championship provides for a field of 24 teams to compete in a single elimination tournament. Of the 24 teams, 10 conference champions will receive automatic qualifications {note - see bottom for AQ conferences}with the remaining best 10 teams being selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Football Championship Committee. The top eight teams in the 24-team bracket for the championship are seeded and receive First Round byes. Team pairings are determined according to geographical proximity. Teams from the same conference will not be paired for First Round games or for Second Round games when both teams are playing their first games of the championship (except for teams from the same conference that did not play against each other during the regular season; such teams may play each other in the first and second round).

Selection Show | November 19, 2017
The NCAA Division I Football Championship bracket will be announced on Sunday, November 19.

First Round | November 25, 2017
Eight, First Round games will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. The winning team from each game will advance to the Second Round.

Second Round | December 2, 2017

Quarterfinals | December 8 or 9, 2017
Four, two-team single elimination Quarterfinals games will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. The winning team from each of the four Quarterfinals will advance to the Semifinals.

Semifinals | December 15 or 16, 2017
Two single elimination games will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. The winning team from each Semifinals will advance to the championship final site in Frisco, Texas.

The NCAA is big on saving money so they will pair up same conference teams in the early rounds if they haven't played each other during the year. So if Nicholls makes it then UCA will likely face them IF they make it to the second round because they will be in our bracket because it saves the NCAA money...because we all know they are broke...

Interesting...475 to the mile....to either school. How weird is that!

Nicholls State University → Conway
475 miles

and

Nicholls State University → Jacksonville State University
475 miles

UCA comes in at #4 in the first FCS playoff rankings just released tonight. Sam Houston follows them at #6. Really good look for the Southland having 2 in the top 10. If we finish out 3-0, no reason to think we can’t stay at #4, or possibly even move up with a potential loss by one of the top 3, although probably unlikely to happen.

Gotta finish strong.

The Missouri Valley is just ridiculous and could really end up hurting itself the last few weeks of the season.

I guess we need to cheer for NDSU to win out. They play #8, #6 and #13 the next three weeks. If any of those beat them, I think they'd jump us. And I think NDSU would stay ahead of us too.

#8 SDSU plays #2, #13, #6
#6 South Dakota plays #28, #2, #8
#13 Illinois State plays #18, #6, #2

Our schedule the next three weeks is not helpful. Definitely need to go 3-0. All four of those teams have their work cut out for them, but if they go 3-0, there's no way we can argue staying ahead of them.

Good point Trey...the MVC is without a doubt the premier conf. in FCS. But in
my humble opinion it would be hard to punish UCA for the Southland conf. letting
in HBU, ACU and IWU. They killed the SOS of all the top teams in the Southland
when they made that decision and they bring nothing to the table.

I was at the Houston Baptist game and there were maybe 800 souls in the stadium.
Have heard through the grapevine that IWU's facilities are lacking to say the least.
Big market teams...that's a bunch of bull...
They are killing the SOS of the rest of the league...

UCA moves up to #3 in new FCS Committee rankings.

Interesting to note this would put them on JSU side of bracket, which would be much more favorable in my humble opinion than JMU.

Surprised NDSU moved back to #4 and SDSU only moves up to #7 after beating NDSU. Either committee doesn’t think MVFC is as deep as usual, or is just waiting to see what happens in the final weeks of the season to these teams. Should be an interesting and fun last two weeks. Roll Bears.

Committee is on record praising our wins over SHSU and McNeese leading me to think that we won't fall past a 4 if we continue to take care of business.

Lose or play uncomfortably close games against these last 2 opponents will change that perception. Unfortunately in rankings and life pretty much...perception is reality.

Looking at the box scores from last years playoffs...
The Illinois State game was dead even stat wise and the Bears were plus 1 on
turnovers I believe.
Eastern Washington more that doubled the Bear offensive output with over 500
yards and 33 first downs compared to 240 yards and 13 first downs for UCA...
Of that 500 yards of total offense over 400 was in the passing game.

Coach Campbell and Coach Stewart have improved the pass defense this year
with good coaching and some new players. The Bears give the impression that
they are better equipped to hold up defensively when the playoffs arrive...

Playoff football is some kind of fun...

Looking at #2 ranked Jacksonville State...they have a common opponent with
UCA this year. Both played Murray State...
JSU 59-23
UCA 41-13

They win by 36 and the Bears by 28

We really want the #2 or #3 seed. What needs to happen:

NDSU loses
JSU loses, or the committee wakes up and realizes that they have 0 top 25 wins.
We win....big.

#2 seed gives us home field until finals. #3 gives us home fields until semi's. The way JMU is playing, we want to avoid them for as long as possible.

Really, it going to come down to perception: How big was our win over SHSU (10-1, presumably)? How big was our win over McNeese (9-2)?

I really see us at #4, possibly #3. But, stranger things have happened.

JSU played Murray at home.....we played on the road.......not sure at high levels playing at home or road makes much difference.........good teams takes pride in winning on the road and in defending home turf........other teams use road games as an excuse to lose.........UCA and JSU should be a very good game...............of course, we first have to take care of Abilene o Saturday.......

Our road takes us through James Madison.

Great year, but like Coach Campbell just said at the watch party, now it is time for Chapter 2 of the story. One game at a time.

See everyone in 2 weeks at Estes!

Did a little research on New Hampshire this afternoon. Was not aware of how consistently successful they’ve been for so long. Think they even made the national semi’s a couple years back. Solid program for sure.

CCSU looks like a decent team as well.. but would expect UNH to take this one.
