AMEN...just a thought, but where would UCA be if Tom Courtway would
Have been the president for the past 7'years?

Farther down the road in my opinion. He is with out a doubt
The best thing that has happened to UCA in a long time.

So UCA is building the Greeks (sororities) a $13 million house.

Up next a greek (fraternity) house... what another $13 million?

Then a common house for both I've heard... another $13 million?

$39 million for one type of organization... hope they come to more athletic events than when they are giving away money or crowning someone.

I don't know why this would upset you Bearcountry. If the university owns the buildings, they retain more control, and frankly show a positive ROI by charging room and board. If a fraternity or sorority can't foot the bill then the university simply kicks them out and brings in a different organization.

Fraternities have been paying UCA rent for years, it's about time they offer a solid foundation instead of the rotting houses that were there in my day.

From 2011 UCA Master Plan

http://uca.edu/about/master-plan/

On the webpage at link above, there is a link near bottom to the master plan. As I recall, the Greek Village is to support housing growth needs and is considered a major draw among students that is missing at UCA.

Residential: Greek Life
The leading residential issue for both administration and
students is the creation of a Greek Village. Both groups
view this element as a near-term priority, although it
was noted that sororities, as a group, are more financially
prepared than fraternities to build new facilities. The
two groups also differ in their preferred management
structure, with sororities preferring to lease both property
and building and fraternities more inclined to lease just
property and construct their own houses.

Not upset. Kinda glad. All I hear from uaf students is how the university places a huge emphasis on greeks there. Now we have that happening here. I think UCAs student population will go up because of it. But what I want to see is those students who get those kind of amenities to actually show up to athletic events like those at uaf do or appear to do anyway. We do have a small football stadium that needs upgrading to change the perception that UCA is small time also. I'm not talking about luxury suites...more like horseshoeing that sucker in somehow.

Most just want to be sure we don't backslide from the financial recovery that has happening since 2009. We all want UCA to grow and be appealing to a wide diversity of students.

Parking...lower tuition......more jobs for graduates......parking ....better paying jobs for new graduates.....free Starbucks.....parking.....new iphones.....faster band width...parking......

By the way, tearing down old houses for a parking lot is basically a placeholder for a new building some day......

Eminent domain is something UCA should try to avoid if possible, especially for property on the other side of Donaghey. Lets hope the Gillean case doesn't become a weekly news item again in 2015. The new Chief of Staff seems to be staying under the radar screen much better.
