The University of Central Arkansas is offering a record number of scholarships for the fall 2017 academic year.

The university has sent scholarship offers to 2,079 potential first-time students for the fall, 308 more than last year.

“Our prospective class for the fall may yield the most qualified incoming freshman class in the history of this institution,” said UCA President Houston Davis. “It is a direct result of our increase in admission standards that we are seeing more students with higher GPAs and ACT scores.”

UCA, Pulaski Tech agree to partner

The University of Central Arkansas is partnering with another college to allow students to use its campus and obtain UCA student IDs.

This is the third such agreement for UCA and another public community college.
On Wednesday, per a university news release, UCA entered a "Bear Partners" agreement with the University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College. The college joins the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton and Arkansas State University-Beebe in having a Bear Partners agreement.

Students who are pursuing associate degrees at each college may apply to participate. Concurrently enrolled high school students at those colleges are not eligible.

UCA and Pulaski Tech already have numerous "2+2" agreements that allow Pulaski Tech students to transfer to UCA for specific degree programs without losing university credit, an increasingly common agreement across higher-education institutions.

Additionally, Pulaski Tech students will have access to more transfer scholarships, should they transfer to UCA, and will not be required to pay application fees when applying to transfer.

Not really an enrollment topic specifically but related.....the link below is to a news story about some of the 2-year schools in the state wanting to add a 4-yr nursing degree program.....at least wants to add residence housing....of course, this is a special circumstances....

Note one is located in the same city as a 4yr university and another is 35 miles away.....

Everyone agrees we have a nursing shortage ..not just in Arkansas....

At least the High Ed Coordinating Board saw these requests as strategic issues needing far more study.....our higher ed state appropriations are already stretched pretty thin....

Houston Davis, president of the University of Central Arkansas, speaking of wider higher education trends, said the number of college students are projected to decrease by 10%.

"What I heard in coming to Arkansas in January 2017 was that this state has too many universities and too many colleges, and that's a debate that's heard around the country," Davis said.

The college enrollment trend nationally is to fewer students overall....would seem like our existing 4yr universities with nursing programs can figure out a way to leverage that overhead.....without creating even more overhead in new nursing schools

With Henderson State dropping all but a few programs UCA will benefit from transfers and so will other 4 year schools. Once the covid era passes more students will want nursing and that program will be bigger again. Just my opinion.
