My apologies for interrupting this thread, but I didn't want to start a new topic and especially since it also has to do with football.
Can someone refresh my memory about the year that UCA won the Southland Conference football championship but was still in transition. I know that the Bears were not eligible for the playoffs, but were they also not allowed to call themselves SLC champions that year?

The reason I am asking is because of this: https://www.instagram.com/p/BJjSD3KjXQV/

Yeah. I saw that too.

UCA won the conference..or rather..had the best conference record in 2008. A transition year. 2010 was the first year post season eligible.

They weren't post-season eligible BUT the conference had to give up their autobid if they crowned UCA the champions. That wasn't going to happen. UCA had a VERY good team that year and if I remember right would have gone much further than the one that actually went to the playoffs. But who knows.

ACU women's basketball had a better record than UCA but wasn't post season eligible either but were crowned the regular season champions.

When UCA won it in 2008 then were denied the "title" but a donor bought them rings that had a giant "1" on them.

So your question is why is ACU women's basketball crowned and not UCA's when they were both in transition?

Update: This might answer it.

The Southland began placing Central Arkansas into its football schedule in 2007, but does not include UCA on the AQ application form for the NCAA Championship. In other sports, where there is regular-season play and a conference tournament, UCA has full regular-season championship rights but does not advance to the postseason events where the NCAA bid is competed for.

“By removing UCA from the automatic bid application, which was subsequently approved by the NCAA last spring, we believed that the situation had been adequately addressed,” Burnett added. “However, we will comply with the NCAA Bylaws, and not place our championship access at risk.”

During the reclassification period, if an ineligible team is given access to a conference championship where automatic qualification is at stake, and that team won the title, a conference, per NCAA Division I Bylaw 31.3.4.1(f), would have to relinquish its NCAA automatic bid and rely on having a team or teams chosen at-large.

Thanks! That explains a lot as ACU women's team did not participate in the SLC tournament.
However, I did find it surprising that, as a transition team, they were invited to the WNIT.
I was concerned that a new team (ACU) was being treated differently from my UCA brothers.
Best of luck to all the Bears and Sugar Bears teams unless they are competing against my Cowboys and Cowgirls, of course!
:D

Yeah, they could be invited to the WNIT as it's not an NCAA event.

SBs took care of business real well this week with a 61-41 win over Liberty and a 69-55 win over Houston............now 8-2 (4-2 in D! games) .........I have been waiting to see how they play against D-1 teams after getting swanked pretty good by Texas A&M early and Texas Tech more recently but got a couple solid wins this week............they may be ready to open SLC play now.........

Next is Lamar at the FC on New Year's Eve........

Lamar at UCA

LU 13-20-17-20=70
UCA 13-13-14-16=56

SBs only shot 2/14 for 3 and had 18 TOs to 11...that is about the game.........Jordan led with 11/8, Mullins was 11/5 and Logan was 8/7.......Strickland had 11....Maggie did not score in H2 and ended with only 5/5 and 0/8 from 3........slowed Kinard some in H2 and she ended with 25 after 17 in H2...however, Barrs added 16 in 40 minutes......

Next: Monday at 6pm vs Northwestern State at the FC

Lamar leads at half by 33-26..........Cardinals Mo Kinard has 17 on 3/5 #s........Maggie has only 5 and 0/6 #s....pretty clear SBs have to slow down Kinard and Maggie needs tor find her range......SBs have good balance with Jordan at 7/5, Logan 6/3, Maggie 5/5 and Baudoin 4/2...........stats pretty even but SBs have 9 TOs to 6 and no 3s........

13-13 after Q1........Jordan leads SBs with 5......

Northwestern State at UCA

NWS 13-9-8-13=43
UCA 23-17-11-25=76 (1-1/9-3)

That's much better....they needed a game like this.............52% FGs and 85% FTs (22/26).......+5 rebs..........+% TO margin..........held Demons to 32% FGs......Jordan was 19/6.........Proffitt 13/4...........Logan 11/5.......Strickland 10/3.....Mullins had 6 rebs and 7 As......

Coach: In good spirits......pointed out Angel Williams defense was terrific.......Q3: Rockin' and rollin' at 51-30......Coach's 490th win and 87th at UCA...........

H2: SBs extend lead to 40-22

Q1: SBs jump out to a 23-13 lead............58% FGs and 9/11 FTs...........no 3s......Jordan leads with 8 on 6/6 FTs......

The rally falls short as ACU hangs on to beat UCA 83-76. UCA was down 36-30 at the half, but ACU outscores UCA 28-15 in the 3rd to take control. UCA storms back and outscores ACU 31-19 in the 4th, but it was too late. UCA falls to 9-4 (1-2).

Minus 11 rebs and shot <60% FTs........just enough off to not win the game............four in double figures with Jordan at 21....two SLC losses to 3-0 first place teams........would have been a nice road win but not a killer.........road games at HBU (1-3/3-11) an TAMCC (1-3/5-10 but 5-2 at home) next week.......need two wins
