UCA not only had to beat a very good ACU team but had to beat those refs. At one point late in the game it was a HUGE free throw desparity: ACU 37 UCA 9 First half free throws were 19-3 in favor of ACU. The Southland has got to look into the performances of their officials. Pathetic. Also why was the floor so slippery? I can't count how many times players slid across it like they were on ice. I'm just glad neither team had a player hurt too badly. One one series ACU tried to inbound the ball and one of ours posted up on her to deny the inbound. The ref called a foul on us. What? The ball hadn't even been thrown in?! Next live ball the girl receiving the inbound for ACU elbowed our girl across the face and slung her to the ground and the officials called a foul on our player. Finally on the next inbound try the girl did the same thing but not as hard and the ref blew the whistle on her. They let the game get WAAAAY out of hand. They seriously need to be trained at the high school level or lower. Glad for the win and I'm glad the women stuck it out to beat the tall ACU team and the one sided refs. |

RACE TO FIRST PLACE: UCA's remaining schedule: 12-2 overall- first place 2-10 SHSU --UCA won by 27 last night. ------------------------------- now 12-2 3-9 HBU -- we won by 31. 3-10 SLU -- we won by 22. 10-2 SFA -- we won by 4. 5-7 NWST -- we won by 33. SFA's remaining schedule: 10-3 overall- third place 10-2 ACU -- SFA won by 9. ACU beat SFA tonight 80-73. ------------------------------- 3-10 SLU -- SFA has not played yet. 7-6 UNO -- SFA won by 27. 11-2 UCA -- UCA won by 4 in Nach. 5-7 NWST -- NWST won by 4 in OT in Nach. 2-10 SHSU -- SFA won by 18. ACU's remaining schedule: 11-2 overall- second place 10-2 SFA -- SFA beat ACU by 9 in Abilene. ACU beat SFA by 7 tonight. ----------------------------------- 5-7 NWST -- ACU won by 22. 5-7 A&M CC -- ACU won by 13. 2-10 SHSU -- ACU won by 22. 4-9 UIW -- ACU won by 9. 3-9 HBU -- ACU hasn't played HBU yet. Lamar's remaining schedule: 11-3 overall- third place so far 3-9 HBU -- Lamar beat HBU by 28 last night. ----------------------------- now 11-3. 5-7 A&M CC -- Lamar won by 16. 3-9 HBU -- Lamar hasn't played HBU yet. 5-8 Nicholls -- Lamar lost by 11. 6-6 McNeese -- Lamar won by 22. Let's look at UCA's head to head with the 3 other top teams. UCA vs. ACU Game 1: UCA -7 Game 2: UCA +10 tossup. We don't play them again so they are a non-factor. vs. SFA Game 1: UCA +4 Game 2: TBD- Home game for UCA. Big win in Nach. undoubtedly. SFA is beating conference teams by 15+ points avg. Lately not as much but still strong wins on the road. vs. Lamar Game 1: UCA -14 Game 2: Don't play again. UCA doesn't play Lamar again so non-factor when it comes to matchups in the final games. Lamar looked really good though on new years eve at the Farris Center or the Sugar Bears looked out of sync. Early season game maybe the Sugar Bears were getting their feet under them? Overall: UCA has an unknown game agains SHSU. However SHSU has just two wins on the season and lose by an average of 30 points give or take. SBs should take this one easily with their crushing defense tonight. UPDATE: UCA crushed SHSU by 27 last night. It really wasn't even that close. HBU, SLU, NWST have all been blow out games by an average of nearly 28 ppg. We should win those but we can't slack. SFA will be a biggie. We beat SFA at their place by 4. Good news is SFA comes to UCA second to last game of the year. SFA will have to face ACU next, then UNO, then a tough UCA team. Not an easy route so if they finish winning out except UCA it will be an impressive feat. EDIT: SFA lost tonight so now they can only hope for ACU and UCA to get a loss. My uneducated predictions for the upcoming UCA games: SHSU- UCA by 20. ACTUAL: UCA by 27. HBU- UCA by 30 SLU- UCA by 30 SFA- UCA by 1 NWST- UCA by 30 Yes I know, don't count your chickens before they hatch. I get it. SFA is the only real test I foresee. Will we win all those games? No idea. Just making some convo for this board. Thoughts? |

Thanks to Bear Country for the Race to First Place info........... wonder if there has ever been a 4-way tie for the top spot at 15-3 each? SB have to take care of business and have a slight advantage with SFA at The FC..........be nice to get some help from ACU............ |

Who's watching the ACU vs. SFA game tonight at 6:30? Big game for both teams. A loss puts either of them behind the pack with only hopes of one or both stumbling. |

Yeah, this one was never in doubt, but the 2s did let them back in it toward the end. A good learning experience for them! |

IF anyone doesn't think this weekend's game with SFA is HUGE... UCA 14-2 ACU 13-2 Lamar 12-3 SFA 11-3 UCA's overall record is 22-4 SFA's overall record is 20-5 UCA won at SFA last time 67-63. Conference only stats: Scoring: SFA 79.8 ppg UCA 69.7 ppg Defense: UCA 54.9 ppg allowed SFA 65.4 ppg allowed Average scoring margin of victory: Both at about 14. Field goal percentage: Both #1 and #2 at about 48% Assists: SFA +2 over UCA Defensive rebound percentage: UCA 70% SFA 66% We are going to need ALL that plus some! Leading Scorers: (of top 30 conference scorers) SFA- Ross 20ppg, Branch 16 ppg. UCA- Proffitt 15 ppg, Jordan 14 ppg, Baudoin 11ppg My opinion: Shut down Ross. She's their leading scorer, assist person, three point shooter, highest field goal percentage. Disrupt her game and SFA has very few options to go to IMO. Side note: I'm glad the Sugar Bears had a collapse in the fourth period. It might give them a back to earth slap they need to face a VERY tough SFA team. While at this point losing to SFA will only put the Sugar Bears back a game in the championship standing, ACU pretty much has cruise control with their 3 easy games left. Not much hope for an upset there. They are very good. |

Keep in mind that ACU is still not eligible for the conference tournament due to their transition from D2. |
