Bears fall to Nebraska Omaha 100 - 75. Looks like the program is
in for a long season again, but there seems to be light at the end of the
tunnel now. I have heard nothing but good things about the coaching
staff and the kids. Hoping for the best.

The game bascially came down to UNO having a +19 offensive rebound advantage which translated into 19 more shots.....TOs still high at 20 but only +4......Bears shot about 44% FGs and 43% for 3s....67% FTs......4 Bears in double figures including....now takes on Big 10 Nebraska on Tuesday in Lincoln then home next Saturday vs SEMO.....

Rebounds were a problem in both games. We've got to figure out why. It would be silly to expect this brand new team to come out and play like they have a ton of (collegiate) experience. But rebounding isn't so much about experience. And there's almost never an excuse to get out-rebounded 51-25! And this has to be one of the few times in history that a team (Omaha) has more offensive rebounds than defensive. Crazy. Difference in the game - second chance points. We were -24! Seems pretty simple.

I did a lot of tweeting during the Creighton game since it was on TV. We've had some good players the last few years, but we never had enough of them - or enough who cared enough. We have some players now. In fact, we might have more talent dispersed across the roster right now than we have in a while. We've just got to find one or two guys down low who can at least get us 6-7 rebounds a game and help keep the other team from getting so many second chances.

My waaay too early to be labeling people analysis:
Fiegler/Zuilhof - Two of the old guys on the team that are actually eligible to play this year. Both of them are going to have to really pick it up (in the area mentioned at the top specifically) for this team to have chances to win games.
Martin - The other junior that has to have a major leadership role. Couldn't stay on the court against Creighton due to foul trouble. Didn't take as many shots against Omaha.
Howard - had a bad shooting night against Omaha. Played and shot it well against Creighton. Had 7:6 turnover ratio against Omaha. Lots of assists. Too many turnovers.
Christensson - Good shooter at 6-9. But at that size will have to play the 4/5 for us?
Unruh - Another shooter.
Kamba - The guy knows how to get to the free throw line. He's 13-of-19 through two games.
Milligan - Really disappeared yesterday. After making seven shots in game 1, he only attempted 4 yesterday in similar minutes. Don't know if they had a shutdown defender on him or what, but he also had 3 turnovers.

It looks like the rotation is going to get those 8 guys about 10+ minutes a night at least early in the season.

The rebound thing that had me concerned is showing its ugly head.

We are being outrebounded by 21 a game. We looked soft vs. U of Oz. We looked like spectators the last two games according to the stats. Turnovers didn't help but a few more rebounds would have eased the point differential since we shot decently.

Lets get aggressive on the board bears! =D>

Bears have played pretty well in H1 tonight vs #21 Nebraska. Bears trailed 32-30 with about 3:00 to go but Huskers got a nice run to close out at 43-34.

Huskers wore us out in H2 to win 82-56......Coach sounded pretty upbeat in post game interview.... this road trip was three pretty good basketball programs...... UNO was the one I thought we might win but it was not to be......let's get home safely and get ready for home opener vs SEMO....

Did not shoot well in H2 (only 30%) while Huksers were shooting 60%+..however, we rebounded MUCH better (35-40)....only 3 more TOs than Nebraska....

11/22/14 SEMO at UCA

SEMO wins 74-68...Bears just could not get the key shot to fall late that would have tied the game....shot pretty well but SEMO made more FTs than we had FTs plus SEMO was +12 in offensive rebs....UCA had four in double figures with Jordan Howard leading at 21....

Bears now 0-4 and SEMO goes to 2-2..next up at CharlestonSouthern on 11/25 then next Sat in LR at UALR...

Again we are food for weak teams. Weak rebounding cost us that game tonight. Outrebounded by double digits again. As i watched the game i wondered if the players knew how to improvise. I mean they looked like a square dancer at a beat street breakdown session. They watched SEMO rebound missed shots. Our center spent more time beating himself up for missing shots than sucking it up and playing ball. Hes a big dude but a big fluffy pillow in the paint. Give credit to the red team. They wanted it more.

This season is not going to be pretty, and coach said that from the beginning. We very well could go winless this season. We have a team full of freshmen and transfers who are learning to play together and play the speed of D1 basketball. We may not have much to cheer about this season other than some individual efforts, but it is building the foundation for the future.

UCA at Charleston Southern....Shoot poorly on road (26% in H1) and most teams lose...got it going in H2 (shot 61%) but too little too late....fell behind by 10 in first 5 minutes, then by 26 and just could never cut into the lead enough.....however, CSU is 3-1 with a 66-65 win over Ole Miss....

UCA at UALR

Shot pretty well but was outrebounded by 6 and had 6 more TOs.....Martin leads UCA with 21 on 73% FGs and Howard adds 20 on 44% FGs....need to get defense put together pretty fast.....

Saw game today and I am encouraged.

We may have youngest team in the country but probably more basketball talent than we've had in a long time.

Pennell was a great hire and we will improve by leaps and bounds over the next few years.
