https://ucasports.com/news/2024/3/18/me ... 0the%20job.

I'm actually excited and hopeful for this coach. He's got experience and with his history, I really think he loves coaching basketball at this point in his life. While returning to D1 will be difficult, I'm betting some lessions have been learned as well.

No idea if he can recurit in the modern system. I think he is going to have to hit the 501 guys pretty hard as well as JC players (maybe local as well?). He's going to have to get them to stick around to get play his system as well.

I'll be anxious for the first season, but really think by year 3 or 4 we will be able to tell what kind of coach he will be for the program. Bad thing is, if he does TOO good, then some high level will scoop him up. Hopefully we don't have a Chris Beard situation.

I think if he can keep the team at .500 on average, most UCA fans can be happy (for now). We need some stablitly for this program.

I hope Conway welcomes him with open arms!!!

You got that right.
No one notices and no one cares.

Nothing would thrill me more than to be totally wrong about this coach.

Mulerider, all of your points are dead on correct. This guy has his work cutout
for him.

At the end of the day, Coach Shulman is going to find there is very little support
for this program. It is still a hard pill for me to swallow, but it is the truth.

After following this program for the better part of 50 years, I am convinced that there will be no changes. Sure, the support in the community is lacking, but there is no support from the Board of Trustees, the administration, faculty, staff and students.

Coach, I wish you nothing but the VERY best. You have a ton of work in front of you.
Hope I am wrong. Good Luck!!!

What would it take for the local
community to take notice.

A trip to the tournament?
A win at the tournament?
A trip to the NIT?

Yes, but too much success and he's gone on to a big program.

I think if you have a team that can finish at least .500 most years and schedule some decent home games, then you will see some higher attended games.

Wouldn't hurt to win some at the NIT level. Additionally, because Arkansas Razorback basketball has been so popular (in very recent years), I think this might have some to do with it as well.

Hopefully a new arena can be built or at least some more upgrades in our current house.

A new arena is most likely not going to happen.
Unless a huge donation from a corporation comes down the pipe.

That’s what we need to be concerned about, too much success.

Kinda like the panhandler complaining about the size of bills he receives

Amen, huggy.
Too much success?
What a great problem to have!

Exactly….the program needs a coach with
aspirations to win and get a better job.

The guy that’s just happy to be here is not
going to accomplish much.

So, do we like Shulman? I’m cautiously optimistic, and his track record indicates that he typically doesn’t tolerate losing that much. He smacks of Russ Pennel a bit, but only time will tell.

Decent D2 coach, not top tier though. Had some success at chattanooga, but beggars can’t be choosers i don’t guess

I'm sick of the talk about a new arena. What is wrong with the Farris Center?Only thing wrong is all the empty seats. I was in it when it opened in 1973 and it has been well cared for 50 years. I can imagine an empty new arena if Shulman doesnt do what Kemper has acc
