There's one coach on the list that's team lost yesterday, making him available to be announced today...

Just sayin'

In order to grow, u have to get out of ur comfort zone. What a hire! Hats off to Dr. Teague. Welcome, Big Guy! Great day for UCA! LET'S GO!

Hopefully, this means he and the new coach are close friends!

That was last Friday. ABC loses, season over. Teague said his list of possibles were all still playing yesterday. That would eliminate Corliss - technically. Of course if someone misspoke or was misquoted .....

Well, we will find out at 2, if not sooner. If it is Coach Williamson, he would bring a great visibility to the table. He will get an open door to any Arkansas and most Out of state recruits. He has a national championship at the AAU and NCAA level plus 12 years (recent enough for high school freshmen thru seniors to remember him) in the NBA (retired 2007)and a NBA championship ring. Not sure who else can match that. He appears to care for his players. He could have been an assistant with just about any program in America with his resume. Yes, the unknown is how will he handle being a head coach at our level. But as we have seen over and over (just look at UAF), just because a coach had solid assistant (even head coach) experience, it doesn't mean that he will be able to coach at a particular level.

If Coach Williamson, can coach and motivate, we could be in for some great men's
basketball.

You left off my main concern - recruitING. While Corliss was recruited, he's never done it. If he's hired he better have two great assistants with him that have done it and are willing to work for peanuts.

Just because you won a national championship playing ball doesn't mean your worthy enough win one (or compete for one) coaching.

I agree. See my quote on Sidney Moncrief. Corliss still hasn't done enough to prove he is ready to take over a D1 program. His team was 12-15 this year.

I'm going to put my faith in Dr. Teague that he found us the best possible coach to take over this program. [-o<

UCA to name new men's basketball coach Friday

Quote:
The University of Central Arkansas will announce a new men's basketball coqch at a news conference at 2 p.m. Friday.

The conference will be in the Board Room of Wingo Hall.

Brad Teague, UCA's athletic director, has been out of town most of the last two days, reportedly to check out and interview candidates. Among the places he reportedly traveled was the SEC tournament in Nashville and the Big 12 tournament at Kansas City.

Matt Zimmerman, an assistant coach at Missouri who is a native of the Wonderview area, was speculated to be the top candidate. Other coaches mentioned in connection with the job, from various sources are: Steve Forbes, an assistant coach at Tennessee; Tony Madlock, an assistant at Texas-El Paso; and Jeremy Cox, an assistant at South Florida. Another prospect reported from several sources Thursday was former NBA star Corliss Williamson, who coaches at Arkansas Baptist.

Russ Pennell and James Dickey, the top candidates going in, have removed themselves from consideration. Pennell, a coach at Division II Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, told the Arizona media late last week that he made a three- to five-year commitment at Grand Canyon and he intends to honor that. Dickey is out of active coaching and living in Stillwater, Okla.

Teague reportedly had a short list of two to three coaches Thursday before he made an offer that was apparently accepted Thursday night.

I like the idea of Forbes. Comes from an excellent coaching system.

I've never seen it this hush/hush when it comes to announcing a new hire.

His flat tax system would be cool too.

I think UpAndIn913 seems pretty confident with his posting about CW. So far he's the only one to be that bold. Maybe he's onto something...
