According to many tweets over the last 12 hours, we may have an opening for a new head coach.

Looking that way. Looks like he is headed to an NBA staff.

From the ADG this morning:

Quote:
Central Arkansas men’s basketball Coach Corliss Williamson has accepted an assistant coaching position with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings.
Williamson confirmed to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette late Thursday night that he will be an assistant under Coach Michael Malone, who was hired by Sacramento in June. He was first contacted by the Kings in mid-July about an assistant job, and he accepted the position this week.

With a record of 26-62 in a three year stint - maybe it's time he moved on.

Unless we go with an interim situation for a yer, it is worse timing for the assistants and their families.

UCA LOSES WILLIAMSON TO NBA JOB

Quote:
Teague said Clarence Finley, UCA's associate head coach the past three seasons, will take over as interim head coach for the 2013-14 season.

"Due to the timing of his departure, we will delay the hiring of a new permanent head coach until after the upcoming basketball season,' he said. "The program is in good hands with Coach Finley at the helm. He will be our interim head coach for the year.'

Teague said anyone with interest in the position or with recommendations can communicate through the UCA Athletics marketing firm, PeakSports Management, at search@peaksportsmgmt.com.

With that extra info you put on the home page, it looks like a VERY long year is ahead for the Bears. This team just can't catch a break!

With him they won 9 games a year on average.
With him they got some good players.

Without him they win what? 9 games a year? But even that is yet to be determined.

NO big loss IMO..except for the name "corliss williamson". He took over a tough job in transitioning a team from D2 to D1. It would take him more than 3 years to get his players in to be a .500 winning team. It's different in basketball than football. You only get 5 players on the court and injuries shut you down quickly. Best of luck to him...he KNOWS the NBA game..he'll probably do much better there. =D>

You bet it does. However, I'd fault Corliss somewhat for his lack of allegiance to Teague for going out on a very thin limb by hiring Corliss on an "experimental basis" seeing as to how CW had virtually no coaching experience close to D1 basketball. You get what you pay for sometimes. Our possible diamond in the rough of a coach only turned out to be zirconium it appears.

I wish him all the luck. No doubt he's a good guy. Hopefully, Teague will go with a more seasoned coach this time. Building a fan base and increasing donations for the program is paramount at this point. I suggest he'd come up with some decent money for our next coach. Probably won't be able to find what we need this late in the season but if this program is not turned around shortly, it may never recover for a long time.

At least we didn't have to buyout his contract.

You would not believe the calls I have gotten today from folks interested in our job. It really is amazing. A former Big 12 coach with AR ties. A former SEC head coach with good friends in AR. Two current SEC assistant coaches, a DII head coach in AR that played in the NBA. Brad has lots of really good options.

UCA has a chance to hire a good coach this time instead of hiring one for appearances. I was impressed at the turnout for our game in Conway and with the right coach I could see the rivalry and turnout to surpass what we have with UALR. I think Conway has the potential to rally around UCA's team. You just have to sell UCA and not the razorbacks.

People will show up to see a winner.

Nice post Crump! =D>

While I've enjoyed the media that UCA got from Williamson, and even loved the fact he has played at every level of ball, I've learned that sometimes the best ball players don't make the best coaches. I thank him for his time at UCA and I know he has enjoyed it. I bet he's grown as a coach from his experiences at his last college and UCA..and now Sacramento will give him even more experience.

Glad to know those possibilities Old Bear! I know UCA is a mover-upper in the sports world and the success in all the other sports has helped attract attention..so we'll be in great hands.

I'm buying my season tix as usual and will gladly support coach Finley! =D>
