3/1/14 FINAL

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2014/3/1/MBB_0301140113.aspx

LU 36-33=69
UCA 40-36=76 (5-11/8-19)

Shoot 50% FGS and 40% 3s and you almost always have a chance to win..... Bears were even +4 FTs....held their own on rebs and were +6 on TOs ...and +20 on points off TOs!!!

Miles made the most of senior day with a terrific 30/14 effort and only 2 TOs...great way to end his home court career.....Jackson added 12 and McClure put in 11....

Great week for the guys.....maybe some momemtum to take to Natch and Nac next week.

3/3/14 FINAL WEEK

Bears enter the final week at 5-11 playing 5th place NWS (10-6) and and #1 SFA (16-0). Needless to day a tough road trip.

With UIW and UNO not eligible, the Bears are currently #9, one game back of SLU who is #8. How can Bears get in and what are the chances:

1. SLU loses both games and Bears win both.....we would then be 7-11 and #8 by ourselves....Lions also have two on road...first at SHS then at Lamar....even with LU only 2-14 nothing on road is a gimme.....Bears may have the toughest last week schedule of anyone.....very long shot to win both as SFA is awfully good anywhere much less at home..

2. SLU loses both and UCA wins one..UCA has tie breaker over SLU with the 14 point win at FC...this seems to be the more likely scenario

3. SLU wins one and UCA wins both ...UCA has tiebreaker...means Bears have to beat SFA at Nac as well as NWS.... possible but a long shot for sure....

Lions have a 3-game loss streak with home losses to SFA and NWS and at UNO.....and are 3-7 in last 10 games....only 1-6 in SLC on road.....same as Bears.....

SLC standings are (* are not eligible for tourney):

1. SFA 16-0
2. TAMCC 12-4
3. SHS 11-5
4. ORU 10-6
5. NWS 10-6
NE UIW 8-5 (*)
6. NSU 9-7
NE UNO 8-8 (*)
7. MSU 8-8
8. SLU 6-10
9. UCA 5-11
NE ACU 2-11 (*)
10. HBU 2-14
11. LU 2-14

3/6/14

After Q3, NWS leads 90-78...Demons won the quarter by a stunning 43-26....Miles has 26/10.....NWS is +18 FTs and is 75% from 3.....Bears shooting well over 50% FGs ...Demons have outscored Bears 64-35 sinece Bears led by 10....SELA down by 16 to SHS midway thru H2 ....

UCA makes a nice run before half to take 52-47 lead....51% FGs (+8 made) , 4/12 from 3, and only 50% FTs for +11 advantage...other stats about even.....Miles is 18/6...what a player...Lee still at 8 but Jackson has 7....everyone has scored....good start..now to finish....SELA trails SHS 17-19 late in H1...go BearKats....

UCA trails NWS by 23-25 after Q1.....Miles is 9/5 and Lee is 8/4.....Bears staying in game with +6 FTs advantage... (Oops..read wrong stat line...NWS was +6)

3/6/14 FINAL

UCA 52-50=102
NWS 47-72=119

Who guessed both teams would score 100+? Bears played well on offense with 55% FGs and 45% 3s.....rebs and TOs about even.....Demons were 60% FGs, 63% 3s and 73% FTs and were +19 for FTs made (29 of 40)..that was the difference....Miles 34/12 (PR) but had 6 TOs trying to make things happen and Lee was 16/6 (PR) and Jackson was 14/6 ...Ball tallied 10...just got outmanned....NWS transition game very good and go to zone and they hit 3s .....just could not get stops....SELA lost by 17 to SHS .... too bad Bears could not get a win....now Bears have to beat undefeated SFA to say in hunt for tourney.... pretty steep climb....

What can you say about Miles effort....terrific...

UCA trails NWS by 23-25 after Q1.....Miles is 9/5 and Lee is 8/4.....Bears staying in game with +6 FTs advantage... (Oops..read wrong stat line...NWS was +6)
