I read in the ADG this morning that all players save one from this past season was let go. Coach said he wasn't quite sure how the NCAA would feel about the grade point thing. Anyone know what will happen if the NCAA sticks it to us? Thanks.

Quote:
The turnover could lead to problems down the road for UCA. The basketball team’s academic performance has been a concern in recent years, with Miles and sophomore forward Tirrell Brown having to sit out the fall semester last season because they were academically ineligible. Junior guard Oliver Wells was ineligible for the spring semester.
The NCAA uses the Academic Progress Rate to track schools’ graduation and retention rates over a four-year period, and those scores can be affected by players leaving a program.
UCA’s Academic Progress Rate scores were 927 (multiyear) and 938 (2011-2012) in the NCAA’s latest report, which came out last June. When the new scores come out in June, the NCAA’s standard to avoid penalty will jump to 930 (multiyear) or 940 (yearly) over the most recent two years.
Pennell said he isn’t sure if UCA will be penalized when the next APR report comes out. But he said considering the state of where UCA’s program is on the court, the Bears are in a rebuilding process regardless of what happens academically.

NCAA MO is to let the institution develop its own plan to correct and penalty, then if a BCS school, basically lets them do what they plan.then for others they add to the penalities....

Trying not to be too cynical, Mens BB has made steady progress since joining D1..

Also, slighty ahead of A-State.....middle of SLC.....

Not sure how the turnover will play out as it probably depends in part on who stays in school and finishes.....

We do now. From the ADG:

Quote:
UCA Athletic Director Brad Teague told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Thursday that the men’s basketball program, barring a waiver from the NCAA, will be ineligible for the 2014-2015 postseason because of low Academic Progress Rate scores.

The Bears will miss out on the Southland Conference Tournament and the NCAA Tournament in 2015.

I fully support this decision. Sometimes things can't be fixed, just rebuilt.

Like coach said "rebuilding year" If you thought we were going to the final four this year, stop drinking the damn koolaid. Not really upset about the postseason ban but if the kids played well enough to be a top seed in the conference tourney, it would be a shame. But a 15 D1 win season would be a big improvement to me and something I can be happy with.

I kept seeing stories and tweets that there was only one else returning. Not sure where I read that DeShawn Rice was also staying but that's apparently untrue. It's pretty embarrassing for a program to have a single player in good academic standing (whatever that means).

It sucks for the new guys to not have a postseason to play for. At this point, I guess it's fair to call the Corliss experiment less than success in pretty much all aspects.

I agree Trey. I never got the impression that Corliss
was fully vested in the UCA program. He obviously didn't
Need the money and sorta went through the motions.

He was a big disappointment to me as a BEAR fan.

The bar was dropped extremely low. I think we should be able to win more than 8 games next season.

6'9" center?

I hope he either has grown since that picture or plays like Corliss in college...9" isn't a center... that a guard.

Welcome though...

If he has a good frame it is tall enough.
