Thanks for fixing that. Yes, THESE garbage seasons.

Can't find anything on releasing the team but can't blame him.

Heard it straight from a players mouth. Rumor was, 2 freshmen were being retained. He said "Nope, everybody was let go".

Can't blame him for wanting to start fresh.

UCA's new basketball coach just dropped all the players who didn't have a 4.0.. what the hell is he thinking.

Is that even legal, NCAA-wise?

http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/how-do-athletics-scholarships-work

Is an athletics scholarship guaranteed for four years?

Many athletics scholarships, like most merit-based scholarships, are granted for one academic year. However, schools are allowed to provide multi-year scholarships. Allowing schools to award scholarships for longer than a single year gives student-athletes greater assurance that their education will continue even if they suffer an injury, their athletics performance does not live up to expectations or the coaching staff changes. If a school plans to reduce or not renew a student-athlete’s aid, the school must provide the student-athlete an opportunity to appeal. In most cases, coaches decide who receives a scholarship, what it will cover and whether it will be renewed.

That would imply UCA basketball scholarships are one year at a time....

Sounds like the new coach is changing the culture of UCA Mens basketball. I`m behind him 100%.

He probably doesn`t want to be embarrassed like the almighty Razorbacks are right now over on ESPN 2. I`ve never seen anything like it.

GO BEARS! UCA BEARS!

That's it! He is trying to change the culture of UCA Basketball. He came into a program that was in shambles. If I were a coach coming to a situation like this, I would want to clean house as well.

Regardless of what the players might be saying, I have it on a much higher authority that two players who were both academically sound were asked to stay.

Coach is serious about players being responsible for their conduct on and off the court and, in particular, in the classroom.

The only way this is a negative is if a player who WAS handling their business in the classroom is now out of scholarship and doesn't have another opportunity lined up. Players know that scholarships are yearly renewable.

It would suck to be in the players' position, but if they weren't going to class, this should have happened under the previous regime anyway.
