SLC OPOW....congrats to Samantha......

Conway – Following a career week that helped lead the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears to a pair of wins, junior Samantha Anderson has been named the Southland Conference's Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Anderson, from Tyler, Texas, had a monster week as the Sugar Bears (16-2, 5-1 SLC) picked up a pair of wins to push their winning streak to five-straight matches, hitting .467 and averaging 5.38 kills to go along with 1.00 blocks. She was a key component in Central Arkansas' 3-2 win on Thursday night, knocking down a career-high 26 kills with five blocks and a dig while hitting .458 as the Sugar Bears handed the Islanders their first loss to a conference opponent in 1,047 days, snapping a 43-match streak against SLC foes. The UCA junior again led the UCA attack in Saturday's 3-0 win over Incarnate Word, adding 17 kills and three blocks on the back of a .481 attack percentage. On the season, Anderson leads the Southland with a .349 hitting percentage and ranks third in kills per set, averaging 3.50. She is the only player to rank in the top-ten in the conference in both categories.

"Samantha had a great weekend on the offensive and defensive side," said UCA head coach Jeni Jones Chatman. "She a go-to in all aspects of what that title means. She has gone to a whole new level this off-season and in-season in terms of her work with strength and conditioning and with her daily execution and effort in the gym and I would say that all of those things combined are the reason for her having the season she, and our team, are having."

Anderson and the Sugar Bears open a two-week road trip with a pair of matches on the road this week. UCA will head to Thibodaux, Louisiana on Thursday to take on the Nicholls Colonels at 6:30 PM, before making the trip to Lake Charles, Louisiana to face off with the McNeese Cowgirls at 12:30 PM on Saturday.

VolleyBears took first game of road trip by 3-1 over Nicholls but fell today to McNeese by 3-2. Record now 6-2/17-3.

In spite of poor shooting in game 3 vs Nicholls, still sot 304 overall to 218. Anderson had 21 kills, Armstrong added 48 assists, Doss with 17 digs and Bramwell had 8 blocks.

Up and down match vs Cowgirls............easily won two then let a couple close ones go. Shot 248 to 244. Harry had 22 kills, Armstrong 60 assists and Doss 22 digs. Basically won all the stats categories and lost the whole deal.

A solid sweep tonight of ACU at The Prince to go to 9-2/20-3.

Not a great night hitting but strong defense as hitting was 204 v 060 with 40 v 30 kills, 37 assists and 56 digs. Harry led with 11 kills, Armstrong 32 assists and Dimon 24 digs. Anderson and Nash each had 7 kills shooting 364 and 467.

Next up is Sam Houston State Sat at noon in The Prince. Only two more home games after this weekend.

Big win by 3-1 over second place Sam Houston State on Sat before football game.

The box score is deceiving as it looks like we won two games easily..............nothing came easy.........fell behind to start every game and had to claw back into it..........we led 22-11 in Game 1 that we struggled to hang on to win by 25-23 .....we trailed Game 3 13-18 and fought hard to get back to 24 all but just could not get two more points.......and lost 24-26

Both teams played frantically every point...................very hard fought........hats off to Kats #5 who got them kills and blocks at key points many times.......

But kudos to VolleyBears............shooting was only 207 v 117........Beaton led UCA with 20 kills with Nash adding 15......Armstrong has 52 assists (to go with 9 digs) .......Anderson had 6 blocks and Bramwell got 5..........Dimon led with 11 digs

With the win UCA goes to 10-2/20-3 to take sole possession of 2nd behind SFA who is 11-1......Kats fall into 3rd at 9-2..........

Maybe it is just me but not only do we have more height but just bigger, stronger players.........some of the kills were just right through well set blockers who had no chance to stop the ball.........

VBs travel to Northwestern State (8-4 in SLC) for a Tuesday might match then to HBU (also 8-4) for Thursday night..........then home the next week to wrap regular season vs McNeese (7-5) on 11/9 and Nicholls (2-10) on 11/11........

Another great win by the Sugar Bears... =D> =D>

I'm not a volleyball person by any stretch of the imagination. I really enjoy
watching the game...I just don't know the ins and outs so to speak.

First question...Is Haley Tippet injured?
Second question...I have noticed that in the recap of the games it is usually the
same 6-10 players that get mentioned...some of the players dress out and travel
with the team but never play. Is this a common practice in volleyball? Is it a set
rotation with certain players ?

I have enough problems knowing what a foul is in football.....will not claim to know much about VB rules...........there are rules involving the net that I can never tell what happened when the foul is called........I do know high sticking in hockey............

I think teams will have their starters and 3-4 who rotate in and out based n situation and giving some rest.........not sure we could have won vs Sam without the best on the court................neither team on Saturday played more than 3-4 extras (or so it seemed) ................

What a comeback win on the road at Northwestern State!!! Fell in G1 by 27-29 then came back to tie with a 25-15 win then fell behind 2-1 with 3rd set loss by 17-25 then leading only 11-10 in G4 they put a surge on to win by 25-19 to tie at 2-2 and won G5 by 15-5 to win the match. When it counted down the stretch VolleyBears outscored Demons by 29-14....

Anderson led UCA hitting only 262 but scoring 14 kills on 42 shots (plus 10 blocks) while Harry shot just 152 with 13 kills on 46 attempts!

Armstrong has 34 assists while Dimon added 17 digs and Tippett had 16.

Stats pretty close overall except UCA had an advantage of +9 on blocks and +6 on service errors............unbelievably UCA took 168 shots while NWS tallied 200!

Ladies move to 11-2/22-3 while NWS falls to 8-5/13-15.

Next up at HBU on Thursday at 6pm.

VolleyBears sweep HBU on the road by 25-17, 25-21 and 25-16........move to 12-2/23-3..............shot better 278 v 171.........Beaton scores 8 kills for 368 while Nash had 7 kills for 357 and Anderson had 11 and 321........Armstrong had 31 assists..........Dimon got 17 digs.....the big stats difference was UCA had only 11 shooting errors and HBU had 20.....

Great road trip...........now back home for a week off then finish at The Prince with McNeese on 11/9 (need to even score with Cowgirls for earlier loss) and Nicholls on 11/11..........

Question:

SFA has one game left and sit with only 2 losses.
UCA has two games left and sits with only 2 losses.
SFA beat UCA earlier this year.

Who gets the conference championship if both teams finish with just two losses? Or is it shared?

I think a conference championship gets shared, but SFA would be the #1 tournament seed.

Someone who knows for sure, please chime in...

Volleyball Tie-Breaking Procedures

Per the 2017-18 Southland Conference Operating Manual

12.03.04 Tournament Seeding. Tournament seeding, 1 through 8, shall be based upon regular season winning percentage in Conference competition. [1/12]

12.03.04.01 Tie-breaker Procedure. All ties shall be broken in the order in which they occur, from top to bottom, in the standings. When comparing tied teams against positions higher or lower in the standings that are also tied, these higher or lower tied positions shall be considered a single position for the purposes of comparison. [1/12]

12.03.04.02 Two-way Tie. Seeding ties shall be broken in the following order:

(a) If two (2) teams tie for a position, and one (1) team holds a head-to head won-lost advantage after two matches during regular-season Conference play, that team receives the higher seed.

(b) If the two (2) teams split two regular-season Conference matches, a comparison of the total sets won between the tied teams shall occur to break the tie.

(c) If the two (2) teams remain tied after two matches, or if they played only one match, then the tied teams’ won-lost results against the highest-positioned team(s) they both played twice shall be compared. This shall be continued through the final standings until one (1) team gains the advantage, thus the higher seed. If the tied teams have the same won-lost record against highest-positioned team(s), a comparison of the total sets won against these highest-positioned teams will be used to break the ties.

(d) If the two (2) teams remain tied, and one team holds a head-to-head won-lost match advantage over the other tied team, even if playing each other one time, it shall receive the higher seed.

(e) If the two (2) teams remain tied, then the tied teams’ won-lost results against the highest-positioned team(s) they both played once shall be compared. This shall be continued through the final standings until one (1) team gains the advantage, thus the higher seed.

(f) If the two (2) teams remain tied, the teams shall be compared in the most recent NCAA RPI rankings, with the highest rated team earning the higher seed.

(g) If the two (2) teams remain tied, a drawing for seed position will be held by the commissioner.

12.03.04.03 Tie Between Three or More Teams. Seeding ties shall be broken in the following order:

(a) If three (3) or more teams tie for a position, and the tied teams all played two matches against one another, the combined record of each of the tied teams against the other teams involved in the tie shall be compared until a seeding advantage is gained.

(b) If three (3) or more teams remain tied for a position and they played two matches against one another, a comparison of the total sets won against the other tied teams will be used to determine seeding.

(c) If three (3) or more teams remain tied for a position, and if the teams combined to split their regular season matches against one another, or if they played an uneven number of matches against one another, then the tied teams’ won-lost results against the next highestpositioned team(s) they all played twice shall be compared. This shall be continued through the final standings until one (1) team gains the advantage, thus the higher seed. If the tied teams have the same won-lost record against highest-positioned team(s), a comparison of the total sets won against these highest-positioned teams will be used to break the ties.

(d) If three (3) or more teams remain tied for a position, regardless of the number of matches played against the other tied teams, any won-loss advantage in the combined pool of tied teams shall be used as a seeding tie-breaker. This shall continue through the order of final standings if necessary.

(e) In the event a tie cannot be broken in this manner, the tied team that holds a won-loss advantage against the highest-positioned team, regardless of the number of times played, shall receive the seeding advantage. This shall be continued through the final standings until one (1) team gains the advantage, thus the higher seed. [5/13]

(f) If the three (3) teams remain tied, the teams shall be compared in the most recent NCAA RPI rankings, with the highest rated team earning the higher seed.

(g) If the three (3) teams remain tied, a drawing for seed position will be held by the commissioner.

(h) In the event a three-way or more tie-breaker is reduced to two remaining tied teams, the tie-breaker reverts to the two-way system described in 12.03.04.02. [5/13]

Well, assuming both UCA & SFA finish with 2 conference losses, 12.03.04.02 (c) will determine seeding, as you've underlined, but I'm too lazy to do the math.

Anyone got the definitive word on whether conference championship is shared? It's all about the bling!

All that tie breaking stuff has to do with tournament seeds from what I'm reading. I'm asking about who gets the regular season championship. I'm guessing since there are no written rules on it then it is shared. In 2012 UCA and SHSU shared the title so I'm going with that. I think that since SFA beat UCA they will get the 1 seed while UCA will get the 2 seed for the tourney if both win out.
