I think that since SFA beat UCA they will get the 1 seed while UCA will get the 2 seed for the tourney if both win out.

Good point on sharing the championship -- I had forgotten 2012 co-champs.

Interestingly, since UCA and SFA only played once, section 12.03.04.02 (c) of JRK's post below should determine top seed. I'm still too lazy to do the math.

Not sure I have ever seen this at The Prince...........

UCA wins first two sets 25-18 and 25-18..then McNeese comes out after break and wins 26-24 but turns it on to win Game 4 by 25-17.......... Game 5 was back and forth each pint with VBs behind then taking 10-8 lead only to fall short 20-18.......

McNeese just seems to have our number this season............maybe we get the 3rd time in the tourney............

Won total points 89-76...........won kills 74-63............won digs 76-60.............won blocks and service aces.....however, lost attack errors by 30-21.......and that made the difference down the stretch........teams shot about the same 250 v 247.......

Allen had a heck of a match shooting 560 with 17 kills.......likewise, Anderson was strong with 321 and 25 kills.......Armstrong had a phenomenal 60 assists......

Falls to 12-3/23-4..............last game is Sat at noon in The Prince.........

SFA is 13-2 and finish at home on Sat vs 2-13 Lamar..........

Well that's a bummer. 20-18 set 5 must've been pretty exciting. Need to focus on the tournament now.

Go Sugar Bears!

took care of business with Nicholls State today with 3-0 win...........avg margin about 8 points per game....good shooting at 297 but held Nicholls to only 068.........+9 blocks......

Anderson shot a terrific 667 with 10 kills........Nash a strong 333 with 7 kills......

Very good regular season.....13-3/24-4....now get ready for the tourney next Thur at Corpus....

UCA Sweeps ACU to Win 2017 Southland Volleyball Tournament
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Central Arkansas claimed its third Southland Conference Volleyball Tournament championship and first since 2013 with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-22) win over Abilene Christian on Sunday in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Junior outside hitter Haley Tippett notched her third double-double of the tournament, and 10th of the season, to help UCA book its automatic qualification to the NCAA Tournament. Tippett led the Sugar Bears in kills and digs with 14 and 18, respectively. UCA posted a .330 hitting percentage, ending the match with 47 kills as Tournament MVP Elizabeth Armstrong dished out 22 assists.

Abilene Christian’s all-tournament selection junior outside hitter Jacey Smith led all players with 18 kills as her setter, all-tournament pick Kendall Bosse, tallied 32 assists for the day. Smith also recorded a double-double with 10 digs.

The Sugar Bears became the first No. 2 seeded team to win the tournament since 2010 when UTSA did so. They will await their fate in the NCAA Tournament when the selection committee announces the first-round matchups on Nov. 26 on ESPNU.

Set One
Down 21-17, UCA rallied seven consecutive points to reach set point and eventually take it 25-22 with a Megan Nash roll. The Sugar Bears fired a .194 clip with Nash and Haley Tippett each putting down three kills. Tippett also led the team in digs with five alongside Amanda Dimon. ACU’s Corinne Grandcolas and Jacey Smith both put up five kills with Grandcolas receiving the Wildcats’ first two points.

Set Two
Eight was the magic number for Tippett in the second set as she led the team in digs and kills with eight in each category for a 25-17 set win. Tippet .727 for a UCA offense that hit a tournament-best .562 for the set. Abbie Harry provided three kills while Savanah Allen, Elizabeth Armstrong and Samantha Anderson each put up a pair. Smith earned seven of ACU’s 12 kills to lead a Wildcat attack that hit .222 for the set.

Set Three
ACU fought back after being behind all set to tie it at 21-21, but UCA followed its timeout with a 4-1 stretch to end the match with a 25-22 set win. Abbie Harry put up six kills on 14 attacks as the Sugar Bears posted a .268 attacking percentage. Emily Doss tallied six digs with Tippett right behind at five. The Wildcats hit a match-best .270 clip with Smith recording six on 18 attacks. Lauren Walker downed all three of her attacks.

All-Tournament Team
Blair Gillard, Houston Baptist
Chloe Simon, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
Jacey Smith, Abilene Christian
Kendall Bosse, Abilene Christian
Savanah Allen, Central Arkansas
Abbie Harry, Central Arkansas
Elizabeth Armstrong, Central Arkansas (Tournament MVP)

Sugar Bears draw USC in NCAA first round. Not a bad seed (14 for region). Playing USC at USC is pretty tough, but it can be done. Time to dig in!

Go Sugar Bears!

NCAA Round 1 @ #10 Southern California

SBs go down 3-1 but really played well for 2.5 sets before USC starting really taking command......#10 for a reason........another tremendous season for VolleyBears comes to an end........proud to be a fellow Bears with them......

Ran out gas in Set 4 and fall 12-25............shot only 226 vs 307......USC was an astounding +11 in Set 4 on services aces which was pretty much the difference.......Allen ended up hitting 550 with 12 Ks......Nash a strong 348 with 12Ks........Armstrong ended with 41 As........Tippett, Dimon and Jefferis each had +10 digs.......Lanier for USC shot 320+ and had 24 Ks........

Fell 18-25 in Set 3 after leading 12-9 then gave up a 11-0 run and got back to 21-18 before USC pulled away. Both teams shot about 300 in the set. Allen on fire now at 611 with 11 kills......Beaton up to 412 with 8 Ks.....Nash at a snot too shabby 312 with 7Ks.....Armstrong at 34 As and Tippet with 11 digs but plenty of digs to spread around......

Dropped Set 2 by 23-25 in a hard fought battle. Both teams now hitting about 330.

UCA wins first set 25-22. Shot 375 to 268..........Tippett shoots 444 with 5 kills.....Armstrong has 17 assists.......20 digs spread all around.........
