Was wondering about the mound. Was flat as a pancake when I was there on Sat. Also, won't the distance numbers on the foul lines and center field walls have to be changed? Looks like homeplate was moved back about six feet towards the stands.

Mound will have to be built and, yes, the distance numbers will be changed.

Bear Stadium outfitted with new infield, student section

Quote:
The baseball team has played two seasons in the their new stadium, which was completed in 2009, but with the new renovations almost complete to the field, coach Allen Gum said the atmosphere of UCA baseball games will be taken to a more exciting level.
Gum said they added a synthetic turf to the infield, which will allow the coaching staff to spend less time working on field maintenance and more time working with their players and recruiting.
Gum said a turf field plays the same way as a well-grown grass field, so they won’t have to worry about getting used to playing on a field that plays differently.
“The advantage of a turf field is it can rain for four of five straight hours and we can go out there and play on the field five minutes later,” Gum said.

This synthetic turf would have saved us at least 45 rainouts between 94-97.

And a snow-out or two in 2000. It was not fun having to shovel snow off that tarp. Ugh.

UCA BASEBALL GETS NEW SCOREBOARD
1/26/2011 4:51:35 PM

CONWAY, Ark _ The University of Central Arkansas baseball program saw its new scoreboard go up at Bear Stadium on Wednesday, a little more than three weeks before the season opener on Friday, Feb. 18.

The scoreboard, which sports a working clock on the top, features sponsorship from TGI Friday’s, Conway Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic, Shane Henry & Associates, USBank, GeoSurfaces, Whole Hog Cafe, AT&T Real Yellow Pages and KSI Construction.

The Bears will begin their season at home on the weekend of Feb. 18-20 when they host SIU Edwardsville. UCA will be at home for 11 of its first 13 games before beginning Southland Conference play on March 11 at Stephen F. Austin.

The 1st full team practice begins at 3 pm Friday, January 28 (tomorrow) if I understood correctly the other day. Lots of excitement around the the stadium! It's almost time!!!
