#3 Sam Houston State vs #5 UCA
Game 14 - Championship

SHS 9-12-3 (40-20)
UCA 4-6-2 (34-26)

Fall behind 4-0 then closes to 4-2 but just could not hold the BKs down.........Tice only gave up 1 ER in the start on 5 hits............Gray closed out with shutout over his 2 IP but damage had been done...........no Bear had more than one hit and only McCurdy had en extra base hit....

Overall solid season and very strong finish ............they would have made a solid NCAA tourney team.........

More than awesome..........

University of Central Arkansas pitcher Brandon Hagerla was the stingiest pitcher in the nation this season when it came to issuing walks.

Hagerla, a senior from Petaluma, Calif., walked just six batters all season spread over 76 innings for a .71 walks-per-nine-innings average. His strikeout-to-walk ratio was 5.83, with 35 strikeouts and six walks, which ranked 25th in the nation.

Hagerla, who missed the entire 2016 season after elbow surgery, finished 9-3 overall with a 2.84 earned-run average. His team-high nine victories tied him for 10th in the nation and was the fourth-best total in school history. Hagerla tied for the team lead with 22 appearances, including a complete-game victory over Houston Baptist in an elimination game at the Southland Conference Tournament that put the Bears in their third SLC championship game in the past five years.

Hagerla, a transfer from Santa Rosa Junior College who earned All-Tournament honors at the SLC Tournament, was just one of several Bears who finished the season ranked in the Top 25 in the nation statistically. Junior outfielder Jansen McCurdy finished second in the nation in sacrifice bunts (16) while sophomore first baseman Hunter Strong finished eighth in the nation in doubles (24). Both of those totals were UCA single-season records.

Junior outfielder Michael Haun was 16th in the nation with six triples (tied for second in school history), while junior second baseman Eddy Sanchez was 17th in walks (48) with the third-best total in school history.

As a team, the Bears finished fifth in NCAA Division I in sacrifice bunts (66), third-best in school history, and 12th in walks (302), the second-most in school history. UCA's total of 22 triples was 11th in the nation and tied for most in UCA history.

This season the Bears, under seventh-year head coach Allen Gum, faced seven teams that made the NCAA Regionals, including three that are still playing in the Super Regionals (Sam Houston State, Vanderbilt, Missouri State).

Bears also had some success against NCAA tourney teams....6-12 overall

Vandy 0-2:
MoState 0-3:
SHS 3-1:
SLU 0-3:
Ok State 1-0:
Tenn Tech 1-1:
Dallas Baptist 1-2:
