Southern gentleman has speed to burn
Quote:
Eskimos prospect Tristan Jackson making a strong case for a roster spot
Vicki Hall, The Edmonton Journal
Published: Monday, June 16

EDMONTON -- Tristan Jackson played the role of southern gentleman Sunday as he tried to make light of the kickoff return that has everybody talking in E-Town.

Shivering in a cool June rain, the Mississippi native said he sees nothing special in running the ball back 92 yards for a touchdown Friday against the Calgary Stampeders.

Click the link. It's a great story.
From this story and other I've just read, it looks like TJ has a great chance of making the squad.

Another quote from the same story:
Quote:
[Head coach Danny] Maciocia stopped short Sunday of naming Jackson to the team, but the director of football operations positively raved about the ball-hawking rookie defensive back with the potential to start on defence and handle returns.

Other quick quotes:
Special teams: Tristan Jackson should have a job because of his punt-return touchdown in the controlled scrimmage and in Calgary last week.

After Tristan Jackson returned that kick for a touchdown against Calgary last week, he was the subject of a ton of media stories Monday.

Jackson's return lone highlight on game tape

"The Eskimos also got a 72-yard punt return score from Tristan Jackson, who cemented his spot as the No. 1 guy on returns, which may spell doom for veteran Keith Stokes, who didn't dress. It was the first Esks' punt return touchdown since October 2005 when Tony Tompkins went 67 yards against the Argos."

From this story

And then from here:

Kick returner Keith Stokes also played the role of spectator Thursday and watched his competition, Tristan Jackson, return his second kickoff for a touchdown in as many games.
At the end of the night, Maciocia raved about Jackson, the rookie out of Central Arkansas.
"Over the last couple years, that's what we were missing," Maciocia said. "He's just a talented player. And he's such a good kid."

Looks like Tristan is doing well for himself up there so far – which I think surprises no one. He was one of the survivors on the day the Eskimos bid farewell to 17 guys – one of whom was the aforementioned Stokes, the 2004 CFL Special Teams Player of the Year.

Fairooz had no such luck and was given his pink slip by the Blue Bombers. There is, however, a chance he could be named to their practice squad which consists of seven players.

Another story solely about Tristan.
He appears to have really won over the fans, media and coaches.

Action Jackson
Tristan Jackson may be hard to understand, but his performances speak volumes
Quote:
"Yes, sir." "No sir." "Yes, sir."

That, and a mouth-full-of-porridge southern accent which makes him almost impossible to understand, is your basic conversation with Tristan Jackson.

"I had to ask him to repeat himself about five times before I figured out he was asking me about getting an apartment," said head coach Danny Maciocia when he told the Hattiesburg, Mississippi product he'd made the team on the weekend.

For Eskimo fans, Tristan Jackson's introduction hasn't required an interpreter.

It was a fine how-do-you-do.

INTRODUCTION

In fact, you might be hard pressed to find a better preseason introduction in Edmonton Eskimos history since Brian Kelly ran his first pass routes in the pre-season and went on to win the Schenley Award as top rookie in 1979....

. Newcomer to watch: Rookie Tristan Jackson returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in the pre-season. The Central Arkansas product has the coaching staff salivating, especially considering the Esks have not scored on a kickoff or punt return since 2005.

TJ was the runner up for the CFLs special teams player of the week award.

He had 194 all-purpose yards off four kickoff returns and eight punt returns; no touchdowns.

Eskimos add to Argos' problems

Quote:
Rookie Tristan Jackson and new running back A.J. Harris scored two touchdowns each as the Edmonton Eskimos won their second in a row at home, knocking off the visiting Toronto Argonauts 47-28 on Thursday night...

Edmonton responded six minutes later as Jackson's 53-yard punt return to the Argos' eight-yard line would eventually lead to a two-yard rushing touchdown by Harris...

Edmonton's defence added to the lead as Jackson picked off Joseph and blazed 89 yards into the end zone to move the Esks ahead 23-15...

Jackson was right back at it less than two minutes later, breaking loose on another punt return and scampering 61 yards to put the Esks up by 15.

Harris, Jackson lead the way as Edmonton defeats Toronto 47-28

Tristan Jackson turned heads in training camp with his penchant for picking off passes and returning them to the promised land.

In his first professional start on defence on Thursday, the soft-spoken southern kid showed he can make magic when it counts with two touchdowns in a 47-28 Edmonton Eskimos victory over the Toronto Argonauts.
"I'm still a little tired," Jackson said, looking wobbly on his feet in the Eskimos dressing room. "I need to lay down for a little bit. Get in a hot shower."

Now that is a new twist.

After the Edmonton Eskimos aired it out for 448 passing yards last week, the Green and Gold are in a first-place tie in the West Division this morning thanks to the feet of Tristan Jackson, AJ Harris and Ricky Ray.

Thanks for the updates and links Trey. Feels good to see a Bear making a good name for himself.

Meanwhile, back in Arkansas, USA, M. Jones had three hots and a cot at the local crossbar hotel.

Sorry, just had to throw that in there. :)

Tristan Jackson of the Edmonton Eskimos is the special teams player of the week.

Quote:
Jackson was a unanimous selection as special teams player of the week for his efforts in the Eskimos' 47-28 win Thursday over the Toronto Argonauts.

The first-year player returned an interception 89 yards for a touchdown and returned four punts for 120 yards - including a 61-yard touchdown. He also had three kick returns for 74 yards. His 194 special teams yards led the CFL in week three.

On the season, he has returned 12 punts for a league-high 228 yards and one touchdown this season. He has also returned seven kickoffs for 160 yards.

JACKSON PROBABLE

Ace returner and starting cornerback Tristan Jackson didn't practice yesterday but Maciocia lists the rookie as probable for Sunday's game in Toronto.

Jackson was a bystander during practice for dental reasons and was kept out of drills as a precaution. The rookie had two touchdowns - a punt return and an interception return - in last Thursday's 47-28 win against Toronto at Commonwealth Stadium.
