Be nice to se Marques get a good chance...I could see him as a rotating receiver with ability to catch and run over the middle and lay some Dbacks on the ground....

Branson just ran the 40 yard drill.

1st run- 4.63...good for 3rd fastest behind a 4.45 and 4.62.
2nd run- 4.59..good for 2nd so far behind a 4.49.

Unofficially he had the third best time in the 40 and missed 2nd by only 0.01! Wow!

Way to represent UCA Branson!

ASU has a TE in there also..he ran a 4.71 if I remember right.

Short 2 yard pass drill out of bounds play Marquez caught a very low pass then next time up caught the pass and went out of bounds. Excellent footbwork and great hands! Still watching the combine on the NFL Network. QBs tomorrow at 10 a.m. Go Bears!

Officially Branson ran the 40 yard drill in 4.71...good for 5th. Rather confusing since the unnofficial time was in the 4.5 ranges...oh well, he has led the drills everytime because of his #..and has done well under that pressure.

Update: Branson had the third highest vertical at 35 inches. Behind the leader at 41 and 2nd place at 36 inches.

Comments about Branson: Very soft hands. Long. All these athletes look like decathaletes. Great group of TEs.

With all the positives coming out of this combine about these TEs, I can see Branson in the NFL easily. What's confusing is the top prospects ran the 40 in the upper 4.9s! But the commentators still said they were the best prospects... Great showing by UCA though!

because an NFL TE doesn't have to haul ass. More times than not he has to whip ass. So if he's two tenths of a second slower but is a bigger target or a better blocker or whatever it may be, then he's still a more-coveted prospect by some.

Marquez will probably end up being an H-Back instead of a TE in the NFL anyway because he doesn't have the size/height they're looking for.

Simply running faster than the other guy doesn't necessarily make you the better football player. Too much stock is put into 40 times.

I agree with you on that one. But if you ask an nfl scout who would be picked higher a 4.2 or a 4.3 / 40 yard runner....he would always say a 4.2....i.e. batman carrol...stunk as a defender but could run like the wind..so he was picked high and has been on several teams due to his lack of talent..

I was looking at the combine results this morning and it's always intersting to see how many prospects are a bit smaller than the prototypical size or the size they are listed in college or even HS. A lot of 6'1" to 6'3" QBs and a lot of WRs under 6'4". The 40 times are the most interesting as you see how inflated they are in recruiting.

Trying to follow TE David Johnson of ASU is difficult as he ran with the TEs but is with the RBs for the other drills.

I watched a little bit and I thought they both did pretty well.

Crump, for his size Johnsone ran real well didn't he? And he also broad-jumped almost as well as Marquez and Marquez is pretty darn athletic.

Marquez won't be a sleeper once someone suits him up....Willie was one dangerous receiver himself....

Marquez and some other FCS players to watch on draft day

Quote:
Fullback
Marquez Branson, Central Arkansas

While listed as a fullback on some draft lists and a tight end in others, Branson is actually a prototypical “Y” receiver that can catch the fall well out of the backfield to the tune of 1,236 yards and 18 touchdowns in his two years as a Bear. Branson was a key reason Central Arkansas was one of the more fearsome offenses at the FCS level, and was quaerterback Nathan Brown’s favorite receiver.

Very similar to the top-rated fullback prospect James Casey (from Rice out of the FBS), Branson could be an early Day Two selection for a team that is looking for an H-Back.

Checked their site earlier today and he's still on Denver's roster, with a few updates on their two mini-camps, but nothing about him.
