Wasn't he an early commit for the Bears then stood is up for Navy? Then Tech? For some it just takes a little more time. Hope he enjoys UCA and finds what he is looking for, whatever that may be :D

@SIU-Carbondale

2/3/18

This is basically a meet for OVC schools and a few non-OVC (plus some short squads like Ole Miss, Memphis, A-State)............good competition but then as my UCA coach used to say if you are not winning your event, any meet is competitive........

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2018/2/4/mens-track-and-field-dunn-moore-grab-titles-at-siu-don-denoon-invite.aspx

SR Eric Moore looks to be getting back into good form with a nearly 6"11 HJ . He is a legit 7"1 jumper but high jumpers, like pole vaulters, can be erratic for lots of reason.........hope to see 7"+ leap soon...........

JR Taylor Dunn won the W3000m in a respectable 10:06.............about 5:23 mile pace........good shot at a Top 4-5 finish.........

JR Logan Morton went 18' 6.25" in the WLJ which is Top 10 in SLC.....just a little bit more would get her Top 6......

SLC Indoor is next on 2/22-23 at the Birmingham Crossplex.........

Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week – Logan Morton, Central Arkansas – Jr. – Cedarville, Ark.

Morton scored in two events at the Southern Illinois Invitational, including the best Southland distance of the weekend in the long jump to finish third among 33 competitors with a mark of 19-03.25. She also registered an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 36-08.25.

Taylor Dunn was honorable mention the prior week.

SLC Indoor Championships- Men's Preview
Birmingham Crossplex

Based on the indoor performances list thru 2/10/18, the meet looks to break down something like the below:

Battling for the top spot looks like Sam Houston State has the edge with Northwestern State in hot pursuit. I saw the NWS sprinters last weekend at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville and they are impressive. Demons should dominate the shorter sprints with maybe 50 points but have to fight hard for enough more points to get the Kats. While Demons could win 3-4 events, SHS might take 6-7. Hard to beat depth of quality.

The competition of the 3rd place trophy should be intense among SFA, McNeese, Lamar and SLU. There could be less than 10 points separating these four teams. Jacks probably have the advantage as they should score good points as normal in the pole vault, relays and Heptathlon.

IWU, ACU, UCA, TAM, HBU and UNO are the last group and pretty closely bunched, except for HBU and UNO. If UCA athletes step up a little bit they could find themselves in the former group.

Best chance for an event win for Bears is Eric Moore, a 7' high jumper who has not gotten back to that level this season, would need some good fortune as the Kats jumper has done 7'2 this year. Alex Hanson also could win the 800m as the first three runners are very close. The 800m very often comes down to who avoids getting boxed in the last 150m.

Other Bears to look for are:

Zach Jewell, 60/200m
Daniel Lawson, 400m
Julien Jeandree, Mile/3000m
Jaron Hamilton and Preston Borg, 5000m
Marcel Keeton, 60m hurdles
Logan Hall, High jump

SLC Indoor Championships- Women's Preview
Birmingham Crossplex

Based on the indoor performances list thru 2/10/18, the meet looks to break down something like the below:

As with the men's meet, Sam Houston State and Northwestern State are the teams to beat. Each team could gather 120+ points........pretty stout. The edge goes to the Lady Kats with a nicely balanced attack in position to take points in sprints, jumps, distance and other field events while the Lady Demons put it on the line with sprints and jumps where they are very good..........saw them at Tyson Invite this past weekend and those there were really solid.

The 3rd place trophy should be a very good competition among TAMCC, SFA and ACU. TAM and ACU score about half their points in distance races with a good possibility of taking 8 of the 9 Top 3 places in the Mile, 3000m and 5000m; each team has to do well here to get to the team podium. TAM has better balance elsewhere but ACU could get 20+ points in the throws where TAM is absence. Not to be overlooked is SFA who could get 30+ in just the pole vault and pentathlon and a splattering of points in numerous events. Based on performances so far indoor, this is a toss up for 3rd.

Everybody elsewhere is struggling for points. Look for IWU, MSU and LU to lead this group. UCA with a good day could be next but has to have some over-achieving performances.

For UCA, watch for:

Ajah Criner, 60/200m - solid competitor......a good race could get some points

Jordan Brock, 800m - run a season best and maybe get 7th or 8th

Logan Morton, LJ - has been doing well in recent meets....getting to 7th would be nice

Taylor Dunn, 3000m- run strong and get into Top 4......certainly capable

Hannah Noble, HJ - quirky event and top spots often are very close.........2nd is not out of reach

Teshunna Sheppard, TJ - good recent results and maybe on a trend up.....3rd in reach

I get to see a lot of elite college teams and athletes and the Southland athletes I see are very competitive even against SEC and Big 12 teams which have very good track....it is really hard in SLC track to get to Top 4 where the points to place high as a team are ......

Good luck to Bears and SugarBears.......
