That's what I thought...with decent progress that could be 7"4 by end of outdoor season..or 6"4 as you can never tell with jumpers

Credible indoor outing at Kentucky......they have one of the arenas that the SEC and NCAA D1 uses for championships.....none of thse are blockbuster marks but Chance Tanner's 48.29 in the 400m is solid.....Eric Moore did not get 7" again in HJ but a solid 6'10.....

http://www.usatf.org/News/Demi-Payne-Awarded-USATF-Athlete-of-the-Week.aspx

SLC always has good track performers but this is very special......best ever WPV mark in NCAA.....I have seen her as well as Sandy Morris from uaf mentioned below...both are terrific vaulters....

Demi Payne Awarded USATF Athlete of the Week
1/22/2015

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pole vaulter Demi Payne wins USATF Athlete of the Week after setting an NCAA pole vault record with her winning performance at the Texas A&M Team Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17 in College Station, Texas.

Payne (New Braunfels, Texas), a junior at Stephen F. Austin State University
, set a women’s collegiate record with her vault of 4.63m/15-2.25, which surpassed a record mark set just 24 hours prior. Heading into the weekend, only one other woman (Texas’ Kaitlin Petrillose, 4.60m/15-1) had ever cleared 15 feet indoors. However within 17 hours, Payne and Arkansas freshman Sandi Morris had both cleared that mark.

“Going into the competition Saturday, I knew I needed to be relaxed and focused,” said Payne. “On the bus ride up to A&M, I found out that the collegiate record was broken the night before. Right then and there I knew if there was any time to bring it, it was then.”

Her winning vault places her at No. 8 on the all-time U.S. indoor list.

Teams at SIU-Carbondale indoor this weekend. Several new school indoor records.

Best mark was 16' 3.5" in Men's PV by FR Daniel Spickes.

SR Connor Ryan set new indoor 800m mark in 1:54.40....this was a superb run with a negative split (last 400m faster than first) which almost never happnes in 800m..by the way Ryan won the event....

SR Tyaniah Cash set a new women's LJ mark at 19'0".

Men's 4 x 400m relay team slowly getting into form...still need to knock off a second per leg by SLC indoor time....Bears also placed 1st, 3rd and 8th in the open 400m race...

http://www.southland.org/documents/2015/2/17/Day_2_Results.pdf

No individual wins this year (very close) at SLC Indoor Meet but some very good marks. Men broke SLC meet record in 4 x 400m relay at a solid 3:12.35 (also UCA record) but SFA won in 3:10+ and took the win and record. UCA team was Trevon Boyd, Kelton Ray, Jeremiah Watson and Chance Tanner. This time bodes really well for outdoors as weather warms up we could get <3:08. {D1 indoor leaders are Texas A&M at 3:03...top schools almost all <3:07..also top schools in sprints almost always have indoor tracks or much warmer weather}

Eric Moore tied for high mark in MHJ at 2.16m/7'1" (school record) but was 2nd based on misses. [This could make the D1 meet.....at Fayetteville on 3/13-14}

Other notable marks I saw in results for UCA were (marks at end of each line are roughly what it would take to get to D1 indoor champrionships):

M400m: Chance Tanner, 47.36, 4th (school record) {<46.50..fast}
M800: Josh Quiroga, 1:52.92 in prelims, 7th in finals (school record) (<1:48.2...awfully good}
MMille: Brant Cook, 4:14..03, 5th {<3:58..there will be very good milers who stay home}
MMile: Connor Ryan, 4:14.35, 6th
M3000m: Jonathan Burgess, 8:32.47,11th {<7:55.....8:25 for 2 miles...tough}
M3000m: Julien Jeandree, 8:35.24, 12th (school record)
M5000m: Jonathan Burgess, 14:49..01, 5th {<13:45.......wow}
MPV: Daniel Spickes, 5.06m/16'7.25", 3rd (school record) {>17'10"...winner likely to be >19}
W4x4: 3:54.08, 10th (school record) {<3:36}
WLJ: Alex Dorch, 5.61m/18' 5", 5th {>20'6"}
WTJ: Aysia Oliver, 11.50m/37"8.75" (school record) {>42'4"}
WPentathlon: Samantha Gibson, 3399, 5th {>4100}
{Gibson was 3rd in last event (800m, 2:21) and scored 801 points which moved her up two spots.....strong to the finish...}

Team results:

For men..... (1) SFA 117 (2) Sam Houston State 104 (3) 75

Bears were 7th with 58 points...good balance and solid scoring marks...really just one top performer from 3rd.....SLC is a very good track and field conference

For Women....(1) SFA 132.5 (2) Sam Houston State 118 (3) Lamar 106

SBs were last with only 11 points......some good marks but just not enough.....lost big scorers from last season and freshmen did well.... Erika Setzler closed out her career with subpar (for her) marks in 3000m and 5000m.....she will go down as one of our greatest ever....

[Note- meet was at the Crossplex in Birmingham....this is one of the newest indoor faciltiies....there are three class indoor facilties in SLC states...Arkansas, Texas A&M and LSU...none of those are used for other than SEC and national meets.}

If you want to see the very best in track and field, come to Fayetteville on 3/13-14 for the D1 nationals.....constant motion.....fast paced meet.....many, many of the best in the world....lots of these performers will be in 2016 Olympics winning medals....

Bear freshman Eric Moore was 10th today in Boston at the USATF Naitonal Indoor championships.....only cleared 6'11" but that is excellent for a FR and he got to compete against two of the NCAA former greats now pros (Eric Kynard of K-State and Ricky Robertson of Ole Miss) who went 1-2 at 7'8 and 7'7....Moore is on the bubble for making the NCAA indoor championships field as his 7'1 mark at SLC meet is about an inch short of being in Top 16.....this would have been a good meet to do a little better....even saw the "Bears" on his warmups in the background while TV was showing the inning jump....good to see one of our guys in the competition.....

http://www.southland.org/news/2015/5/8/TRACK_0508150324.aspx

UCA's SOPH Bridgitte Caruthers holds off two SFA runners to take 2nd in the 10k race in 37:28......good for 8 points...FR Preston Borg pciked up one point with n 8th plac e in the men's 10k at a credible 32:03

Bears take 3 of Top 10 in Men's LJ but only score 3 as JR Anthonny Farris-King gets 7th at 23'4.5 and FR Daniel Spickes gets 8th at 23' 2.75....

While not from UCA, the women's PV continues to smoke and go as SFA's JR Demi Payne wins at a fabulous 15' 5.50 setting up another showdown with uaf's Sandi Morris at NCAAs......they each held American collegiate indoor PV mark this season....

NCAA D1 West Regionals Track and Field Meet at Austin, TX
May 28-30, 2015

For Results:
http://branchsportstech.com/NCAAWest/

May 30

4 x 400m team (Boyd-Ray-Watson-Tanner) could only run 3:10 which is a disppointment for them but sitll very good.....it took 3:06.22 to get to Eugene which is probably more than we can do at our best right now but I know the team wanted 3:08 or better which is within reach....but step in the right direction this season.....

Fr Daniel Spickes no heighted in the PV the same as did 10 others from such traack schools as Texas A&M, UCLA, Wisconsin and Texas ...plus a multi-time NCAA PV champion from Arkansas (Mt Ida native)...it literally happens to the best at times.....it looks like it took 117'4 to get to Eugene which would have been a blowout vault for our guy who has done 16'10.....an excellent freshman season....

May 29

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2015/5/28/MTRACK_0528153406.aspx

Tanner did well on Day 1 and advanced to today's quarterfinals. Believe me, it is very hard to get to the NCAAs championships in any event but the 400m is so tough as US cranks out large numbers of fine 400m runners....it may take less than 45.5 to get to Eugene and that is flat fying....

He just failed to advance today about 6pm so he now looks forward to the 4 x 400m relay Saturday....another terrific event in NCAAs.

Moore cleared only 6'8 a subpar perfromance for him but a FR at Regionals is in rarified air...great exerpeince for next year....

Farris fouled on all three jumps no doubt trying to squeeze every mm out of his jumps.....

Another FR Daniel Spickes does the PV on Saturday....

May 28 for Bears:

SR Chance Tanner runs qualifying in the 400m from lane 5 in heat 1. With a fast 46.09 time he has a "chance" to make final 24 for the trip to Eugene, Oregon. He has to lay in on the line in the prelims to keep alive...probably needs sub-46 tomorrow to make next round. Only athlete from Arkansas in this marquee event.

JR Anthony Farris-King jumps first in Flight 3 of the Men's LJ. Getting to final 24 not out of the question but need good day jumping. Arkansas has 6 athletes from four schools in the event (UCA, A-State, UALR, uaf) . That is pretty awesome to have 12% of the field from a small state.

FR Eric Moore jumps 11th in Flight 1 of the men's HJ. He will need a good day to get into final 24 but aaways possible given he has cleared 7 feet more than once.

http://www.ucasports.com/news/2015/5/21/BB_0521154745.aspx

Great to see 7 Bears in the meet......including 4 fab freshmen....Tanner in a good spot to advance to nationals in 400m but there is never any room for error at this level...also, good time to get that 4x400m relay time down below 3:08....

"The qualifiers include senior Chance Tanner in the 400 meters, freshman Daniel Spickes in the pole vault, freshman Eric Moore in the high jump, junior Anthony Farris-King in the long jump and Tanner, senior Kelton Ray, freshman Jeremiah Watson and freshman Trevon Boyd in the 4x400 relay."

NCAA D1 Championship at Tracktown USA (Hayward Field, Eugene, Oregon)
June 10-13, 2015

UCA did not have anyone compete in this superb meet won easily by the hometown Ducks in both men's and women's. Top 4 teams were:

Men:
85 Oregon
56 Florida
53 Arkansas
45 LSU

Women:

59 Oregon
50 Kentucky
47 Texas A&M
43 Georgia

SEC had 5 of Top 8 men and 6 of Top 11 women...make no mistake SEC is the best track and field conference ...Oregon is lights our currently and USC is very good.

The SLC highlight of the meet was SFA's Demi Payne winning the women's PV at 15'5 beating out collegiate record holder Sandi Morris of Arkansas at 15'3. I have seen each Demi and Sandi the past two season several times..they stay healthy and that is the Team USA Oylmpic vault team of the future. Payne held the collegiate record earlier this season.

SLC story on Payne's big win:

http://www.southland.org/news/2015/6/12/TRACK_0612152319.aspx

How did the top Bears compare?

Long Jump: JR Anthony Farris-King had a season best of 24'6 and it took 25'6 to get to Eugene..then 25'5 to score

Pole Vault: FR Daniel Spickes had a season best of 16' 9+..it took 17' 4 to get to finals and 17' 8.5 to score...note that 12 of final 24 did not clear more than 16'10

400m: SR Chance Tanner ran 46.09 for his best at SLC meet and it took 46.61 to get to Tracktown..then it took 45.93 to get to finals and only 46.52 to score

4 x400m relay: Bears ran season best 3:09.36.....it took 3:06.22 to get to Eugene and 3:07.10 to score..high 3:07s probably about best we could have done....

High Jump: FR Eric Moore jumped 7'1 for his season best and 7'+ multiple times...it took 7'1 to get to Eugene and 7'1 would have scored

This is by far our best set of performances..ever.. and we have had great track performances over the yars....

All of these marks were competitive and I assure you would not have been any sortt of embarassment.....Eric Moore as FR did suprerb and really could have been Top 8 at nationals.....Tanner missed a golden opportunity to move up but still had a great season and career...now we have to be consistent at this level and get to nationals and starts scoring......if we can get to 10 points we can be Top 20...... great progress this season by the Men....
