Beach Volleyball as a NCAA sport is still being pursued. The courts would be co-managed by Athletics and Campus Recreation.

As much as I like volleyball, I have to ask the same question...

I know it was Fatchmos dream. We are building two regulation sand courts next to the HPER so I guess it's happening.

Looks like the students may care more than most of us think:

Men's Club Volleyball Team (MCVBTeam)
We are the newest team on campus! We practice weekly and play other colleges such as Texas A&M and Oklahoma State in tournaments across the nation as a part of the NCVF (National Collegiate Volleyball Federation). All skill levels are welcome to come and practice with us! We love this sport and want to represent UCA in the Men's Collegiate Volleyball world! Also, we are hoping to go to the national tournament this year.

OK, I am going to ask the dumb question of the month.....this was posed to me last week and I honestly don't know the answer nor do I feel like I am qualified to answer this.

Here we go......

Will the addition of Beach Volleyball help with title IX issues ?

Educate me on this folks.

Thanks, in advance.

Any men's varsity sport adds to Title 9 compliance exposure unless a roughly equal women's sport is added. It is not just a one for one equation as there is really no offset for football. Sports where there are similar men's and women's teams ....basketball, soccer, golf, baseball/softball, cross country and track and field....basically offset each other......women's tennis and volleyball help offset football...........as with most every federal law it is designed to be vague and subject to lots of interpretation (and litigation) but also open for innovative ways to show compliance. At one time some universities actually studied high school students interests in their states then offered university level sports to match. For example, if there were few girls cross country teams in a state, then there is ittle demand for the sport at the next level, that seems to have fallen out of favor in recent years and many schools revert to offsetting numbers (and budget) which is more objective to show.

However, Title 9 is not just varsity sports, it covers all aspects of a university. If men have new residnetial halls and women have old or men's are air conditioned and women's are not, that could also run afoul. Of course, the other way around is of little if any concern or interest.

Looks like UCA is going for it in two years..maybe sooner! [-o< =D>

The payouts they would receive would more than cover the cost of the program! Good article on it in the LCD.

Way to go! A non-major sport that can fund itself will take nothing away from athletics! =D>
