Pretty typical very early season meet except that our high jumpers did really well...............Eric Moore ties the Ole Miss jumper for 1at at a fine 7' 1/2" and Fulani Petties (from VolleyBears) ties for 1st a very good and school indoor record at 5' 7"...........

Men were 2nd to Ole Miss in team meet...........Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss had teams/athletes competing along with area universities........

Meet was at the Birmingham Crossplex that hosts teh SLC Indoor Meet and one of the newest first class track and field facilties.

Teams do not compete again until 1/15-16 at Kentucky which is frequent site of SEC and NCAA D1 indoor meet.

Kentucky is quite a ways to go for an indoor meet but they have a good facility (often hosts SEC championships and have hosted NCAAs) and experienced officials and meet administration plus attract good competition. UCA competes this coming weekend at A-State which also was at Kentucky then goes to Kansas and Southern Illinois before SLC. Both SLC Meet and NCAAs are in Birmingham, AL.

Make no mistake, it is always good to set school Top 10 marks. However, we have a ways to go to really be where we can get. The men's distrance medley relay (1200m-800m-400m-1600m...a really exciting race) time of 10:11 (our 2nd best ever) is 20 seconds off what it takes to get to NCAAs (not win, just get there). It will take a couple of 4:05 or better milers to knock a lot of time of time off...that is within our reach. Note that the NCAA D1 winners (Arkansas, Oregon, Stanford types) run about 9:30 which is simply awesome to watch. We can get to where we can regulary win SLC.

The high jump of 6'10+ is very solid and he has done 7+ last year. Probably takes 7'2+ to get to D1 nationals. Very competitive event.

The men's 800m really has to be under 1:50 to get into nationals and 1:47 to win.

The long jump probably takes 23.5+ (we jump about 22) and triple jump takes about 49+ (we are about 45).

The men's 4x400m takes 3:08 or so to get in.........that is reachable in good yearswith some good fortune.

The men's 400m is an elite event in NCAA........the USA just produces so many great quatermilers................ to get to NCAAs probably takes 46.5 at most.......the finals may be entirely 45.5 or better.........we do high 47s indoor.......

Fulani's high jump of 5'7 is on the cusp.........last year it took about 5'9 to get there.

Schools without indoor tracks will always have a steep hill to climb with indoor track..............the weather usually make it very hard to get speed work in for indoor..we are better outdoors traditionally as we have good weather and a very nice track and field faciility. Central Arkansas (the region as well as the school) needs a good indoor facility (does not have to be an elite facility). I hope we do not wait until someone in LR gets it done.

Nevertheless, our athletes compete hard and we keep getting better overall. For exmaple, we have had very good (sub 3:10 4x400m men's relays the past two years and we have 5-6 men distance runners who run well under 9 minutes for 3000m............I do not recalll us ever having that type depth...........

LEXINGTON, Ky. _ The University of Central Arkansas track and field teams turned in several UCA Top 10 performances on Friday and Saturday at the Kentucky Track and Field Indoor Invitational at Kentucky's Nutter Fieldhouse.

For the men, UCA's distance medley relay team of Markus Schweikert, Daniel Lawson, Quiroga and Julien Jeandree finished fourth (10:11.17) in the second-best time in UCA history. Sophomore Eric Moore finished fourth in the high jump at 6-10.25. Senior Josh Quiroga finished fourth in the 800 meters in a time of 1:53.59, third-best in school history.

Senior Jahleel Lilly was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.24 meters, while senior Anthony Farris-King was sixth in the long jump (7.02 meters). Lilly was also 10th in the long jump (6.83 meters). UCA's 4x400 meter relay team of Lawson, Aaron Hamilton, Anthony Hamilton and Quiroga finished seventh in a time of 3:22.09. UCA's B team (Roy Lowery, Nakita Higgins, James Lassiter, Deonte Watson) finished ninth (3:25.57).

Lawson, a sophomore, finished 10th in the 400 meters in a time of 49.92. Watson also finished 10th in the 800 meters (1:55.22) in the sixth-best time.

For the women, junior Fulani Petties tied her own school record in the high jump with a jump of 1.70 meters (5-7). Freshman Hannah Noble was 13th (1.65m) and junior Brooke Wright was 23rd (1.60m). Senior Jasmine Campbell finished sixth in the triple jump at 11.45 meters, the fifth-best mark in school history, while senior Aysia Oliver was eighth (11.29m) and junior Sofia Maciel-Ramirez was 16th (10.86m).

Campbell also finished 18th in the long jump (5.31 meters) and freshman Logan Morton was 23rd (5.21m). UCA's 4x400 relay team finished 20th (Tiauna Jefferson, Jasmine Richard, Molly Sampson, Samantha Ellis). Freshman Abigail Topham finished 29th in the 3,000 meters (10:29.12).

Indoor track at Kansas

Top mark to me is Eric Moore winning the hgh jump at a solid 6'11.75"...........

Preston Borg got 3rd in his section of the 3000m in 8:39 which is about 9:10 two mile pace........Albert Maeder was 5th in same section at 8:47 (9:18 two mile).....not going to get to NCAAs but pretty solid .....

Hannah Nobles and Fulani Petties each high jumped 5' 5.25 and tied for 5th.....first seven cleared same height......

Jaheel Lilly went 47' 6.5 in the triple jump good for 2nd...........very respectable....

Hadley Swanson scored 3196 in the women's pentathlon which looks to be in Top 10 for sure and maybe Top 6.......best events were 60m hurdles (804) and high jump (724).........

At NCAA D1 Indoors at Birmingham (Oregon Ducks won both men's and women's), UCA's Soph Eric Moore competed in the HJ.

I have been to many indoor nationals and was at the D2 indoor this year. It is a high achievement just to qualify for nationals in track and field. US universities are so deep in talent with both home grown and foreign student talent, many of who will be on their home country Olympic team. While D1 is clearly the deepest, even D2 is terrific as over 30 marks at D2 would have been All-America in D1.

Hats off to Eric for making nationals and getting to compete as one of the 16 best in the US. The high jump is brutal competition as the starting height is 6' 11.75 and the progression is to 7' 1.75 then to 7' 3.75. This means that most jumpers in the field start at nearly their PR and have little leeway to get into the jumping groove. At normal meets the bar may start about 6'5 which lets the jumpers get some momemtum but not at nationals. Eric cleared the opening height but like almost half of the jumpers did not clear the next height which would have been just shy of a PR for Eric (7'2.5). I saw the winner from Texas Tech earlier this season when he cleared about 7'5+ and he was only able to clear 7'3.75 at nationals.

Congrats to Eric and getting great experience for outdoor and next season.

@SFA

Brigitte Caruthers took 5th in the W5000m in a nice 17:40 and top SLC finisher

Jasmine Campbell was 2nd in WLJ at 19'2+

Campbell and Alex Dorch were 5th-6th at 38" 0+

Hadley Swanson was 4th in W Heptahlon at 4529 points.......647 per event

Brant Cook was 4th in M1500m in 3:53...about 4:09 per mile.........close to school record pace

Markus Schweikert gets 2nd in M5000m in 14:55............that is a sub 14:30 pace for 3 miles which woud be among best for UCA distance runners.....
