SBs get a big win at Texas State Invitational........... Junior Emma Svensson earned medalist honors and led the University of Central Arkansas women's golf team to a record-setting nine-stroke victory Tuesday at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course.

Svensson, from Halmstad, Sweden, shot rounds of 76-68-67 to finish with a season-low 2-under 211, edging out freshman teammate Geraldine Wong for first place. Wong, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, shot 69-74-69 for a career-best 1-under 212 to finish second by two strokes over Houston Baptist's Kaity Cummings.

As a team, UCA shot 297-293-282 for an 872, beating UTSA by nine strokes. The teams finished Monday's suspended second round on Tuesday morning prior to the final round. UCA's final two rounds were the best scores of the day, with the 282 third round setting a school record for lowest round. The 872 total tied the UCA school record for a three-round tournament.

UTSA finished second (881), followed by Houston Baptist (884), Texas State (892), Georgia Southern (894), Lamar (900), UTEP (901), James Madison (905), Arkansas State (912), North Dakota State (917), ULM and UT Arlington (926), UT Rio Grande Valley (933), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (938), Stephen F. Austin (942), McNeese State (948) and Little Rock (953).

Nice stats data for SugarBears.........Emma Svensson ties school record for low round at 66 last fall but had a 67 and 68 in the first spring outing at Texas State.....Emma and Geraldine Wong finished 1-2 with stroke totals of 211 and 212....UCA easily wins team title........Svensson was SLC Golfer of Month avg 70.3

Bears were 8th of 19 teams after Round 1 with team tally of 293 with top 4 between 72 (Miles Smith) -75.......Top 3 teams were MU (275) - Kansas State (281) - Missouri State (282).......imagine interstate play..........how radical.........

Bears fell off in Rd 2 and 3 as 4th man could only get down in 81 and 82.............that led to dropping from 8th to 14th.............

Top 3 were ..........Mizzou at 839, K-State at 850 and Missouri State at 863.....Mu's Hayden Buckley was medalist with rounds of 65-69-70 for 204 total.........Lewis George led Bears with 73-73-71=217 and Miles Smith one shot back with 72-74-72=218...........at least Bears finally beat North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Northern Iowa...........never let it be said we have not beaten NDSU.......just not in football (yet)......

I try to follow golf some (my daughters play, and we see the teams practicing all of the time at Centennial Valley). Women's team placed 2nd at conference tournament for the second straight year.

Men look like they will finish in 4th. But, Lewis George is finished at even par for the tournament. He sits in 2nd place alone, behind one player from McNeese (who is -2 for the tournament with holes left to play).
