https://ucasports.com/news/2019/6/13/softball-bears-pick-up-versatility-with-two-more-2020-additions.aspx CONWAY – University of Central Arkansas head softball coach David Kuhn has announced the addition of two in-state standouts to the 2020 roster Friday morning. Morgan Nelson (Bentonville High School) and Lexi McClellan (Crowder College) will make their way to UCA this fall, both bringing versatility and a winning pedigree to the Bears. MORGAN NELSON Hailing from Arkansas high school powerhouse Bentonville, Nelson brings a winning mentality to Central Arkansas. The infielder has guided the Tigers to four-straight state championships including winning three consecutive titles from 2016-2018. Nelson was selected to the Arkansas All-State Tournament Team from 2017-2019, named All-Conference in 2018 and 2019 and was named an All-State Infielder 2018-2019. Her senior season, Nelson rattled off an impressive .452 BA that included 11 doubles and 10 homers while driving in 49 runs and scoring 41. "I am excited to bring Morgan to UCA," Kuhn said. "She competes hard and knows how to win. She comes from a great high school program, has a lot of pop in her bat and can play multiple positions in the infield." LEXI MCCLELLAN A threat on the basepaths and a valuable left-handed bat, McClellan will likely play multiple positions when she gets to Conway. The Ozark native was named All-State three times in high school before having a remarkable two year run at Crowder. During her second season with the Roughriders, McClellan hit .441 and stole 39 bases. She scored an astounding 61 runs while also driving in 26 of her own. McClellan delivered eight different three-hit performances one four-hit performance on her way to a career-season. For her efforts, McClellan was selected to the First Team NFCA All-Region Team as a utility player. "I am happy to have Lexi join our program," Kuhn said. "She comes from an outstanding junior college program at Crowder. She is very fast and is a great athlete who is a legitimate utility player that can play infield or outfield at any given time. She will also provide a much-needed left-handed bat for our lineup." |
