Congrats to Lu, his team and the friends of UCA in the state legislative for some much needed funding increases .....check out story ...

Also, pat Lu on the back for seeking for UCA to be the site of a Presidential election debate. This would be big for exposure.

Any idea where the extra $9 million will be going?

Maybe to buy the LCD so we can get some some coverage from a local newspaper. Did anyone else notice they didn't have anything in the paper today about yesterday's games?

P.S. And their sports editor was at the game!

Progress? The LCD reports on these sporting events. Anything from the UA via the Associated Press. Conway High School athletics and UCA football and basketball. Just a little more coverage than the AR DemoGzt.

Sad thing is that the entire print/tv media outlets only report UA athletics and nothing else.

attaboy Lu. what to do with the extra 9 mil i would prefer in this order 1. Scholarships 2. Parking deck (if not too much of an eyesore) 3. Toward our least aesthetically pleasing athletic facility.

Putting needs ahead of wants, I'd say you've pretty much hit the nail on the head!

From what I have been told, most of the university presidents are very pleased. Funny how everyone gets along when there is lots of extra money to throw around.

I know ASU is getting a new Arts and Humanities building, a new honors residence hall, another new residence hall and the students also voted to add a new recreation center. There was also money to refurbish existing dorms.

Yes, the surplus made things easy.

The 13 million we picked up as a result of the higher education bond initiative passing last november won't hurt either.

I would hope that we wouldn't have to spend any of our extra legislative monies on athletic facilities, as that's not really its intended purpose. I may be on my high horse here, but I'd prefer the athletic needs be paid out of private funds, etc. UCA's first priority to the taxpayers is education & research.

I just think this approach makes UCA look more equitable and responsible. I would be happy to discuss the opposing viewpoint, though.

Last year it was reported that UCA had more students living in student housing than any other university in the state. Bear Village was a big help but more will be needed. Lu and Crew are well aware of housing needs as well as classroom and faculty office needs. They have lots to juggle and are doing pretty well. I agree that the more students who live on campus and elsewhere in Conway helps football and basketball attendance.
