Post subject:  Fireworks

Found out today that there is a an effort by some of the residents living around the vacinity of UCA that are trying very hard to have the fireworks stopped during the football games. The boom at the height of the fireworks has been discontinued but the locals want to discontinue the fireworks all together.

So far, the naysayers have overwhelmingly been contacting the president's office with their complaints. FWIW, I was told that is one of the former coach's wives that is leading the charge. :x

If you feel that the fireworks should be continued you might want to notify the president's office and show your support. I don't have the email address at this time but will try to have it for you tomorrow.

This is just a symptom of a greater issue I have suspected has been plaguing UCA for awhile.

Maybe they could move the fireworks closer to the stadium? From Estes it looks like they're setting them off somewhere over toward Conway Regional. Probably not a good idea to make loud noises around a hospital. How far away are they, really :?:

It's not like the games are late at night these days.....I guess it is the number of times the bombs go off at a UCA game.....just another good reason to buy more property around the campus for future use.....

Are the Isom's mad??????

Nope, not them.

Found out President (still sounds a little odd) Courtway's email address:

tcourtway@uca.edu.

They shoot the fireworks from the infield of the baseball stadium I do believe, at least that is what I was led to believe due to safety issues getting TOO close to the crowds during games.

I love the fireworks! Most big places I've seen go all out with them, and ours is just one little boom. How about those Service Academies with their actual canons that shoot them off during games, I guess the government will have to stop shooting those during sporting events?

What are you talking about? I am confused.

Anyway, I figure hospitals are accustomed to loud noises since a lot of them – including Conway Regional – have helicopters that land on them. So that shouldn't be an issue.

Moving on...

If it's not the Isoms complaining, who would it be? I can't imagine it would be Harold Horton's wife since she lives about 150 miles away.

My money is on that old bat Mrs. Longstreth.

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. People complaining about something that happens 1 day (on a weekend) 7 times a year. Sorry UCA scores more than the Hogs.

I vote we shoot more fireworks, offer anyone who is complaining fair market value for their home and keep that land to support future expansion of academic and athletic venues.

I have it from good sources that it's not the people being disturbed - it's Fido and Fidette.
