The fact that this is a HUGE game is an understatement! This game will pretty much let us know where we stand this season. I hope we have another big crowd on hand for this one. We need 12,000+!

We have a run game and have been able to open holes. the backs had a lot of success saturday on counters. make no mistake, we will have to play flawless to win. no turnovers and limit penalties. we have the skill players to make plays and win, but we come out and continue to shoot ourselves in the foot, shsu will steamroll the bears

Sam is 2-0 with a win an opening win on the road at Northern Arizona by 42-16 and then at home over SEMO by 52-14. BearKats were off last weekend.

Sagarin ratings has SHS by 10 over UCA.

Current week Sagarin ratings:

SHS, 65
ASU, 63
MSU, 56
UCA, 52
NAU, 48
SEMO, 44
UAPB, 33

So, the win over UAPB while helping UCA in several ways tell us little to nothing the SHS game.

SHS beat both NAU and SEMO and UCA would be slight favorites as well over each. It is hard to assess Sam on either of these games. We know that SEMO railed Mizzou 52-7 at half and were totally overwhelmed until Tigers played 3s and 4s in Q4 (2s played in Q3). I'm guessing UCA would beat SEMO at home similar to the UAPB game.....maybe a TD less but then we left two TDs literally on the ground with dropped passes.

The obvious matchup that is pretty even would be SHS and ASU....the home team would be favored. We know we had our chances in Q4 to win in Jonesboro but just did not have quite enough). We are certainly playing better now than in the opening game.

This is an important game for each SHS and UCA in AWC play and FCS playoffs, arguably far more important for UCA. Neither team will take tis game for granted.

We know SHS will be talented, well coached (Keeler is 71-22 at SHS) and great skill players. We know there is a considerable rivalry (and they seem to non t like coming to Conway).

Recent SHS vs UCA games follow:

2019: @UCA, 29-25 win
2018: @SHS, 31-34 loss
2017: @UCA, 41-30 win
2016: @SHS, 23-59 loss
2015: @UCA, 13-42 loss
2014: @SHS, 31-38 loss

The current class of seniors are 2-2.

In the game vs SEMO, stats looked a lot like SEMO vs Mizzou.....SHS ran for 297 (almost 8yd per run) and passed for 264 (3 TDs and one INT).....SEMO could only manage 103 running the ball and 203 passing

Eric Schmid is the QB and is 37-65 for 518 yds on the season with 6 TDPs and two INTs (and one fumble lost)....backup QB has only thrown two passes....he has run 10x for 45 yds with a long of 19...no TDs rushing...

RB Ramon Jefferson leads the runners at 22 carried for 298 yds and 3 TDs....no passes.. in fact they have only thrown 6-7 passes to RBs...

Zach Hrbacek, Trapper Pannell and Noah Smith have each rushed for 80+ yds and have two TDs combined.....they avg about 5-6 yds per carry ..Pannell has a 77 yd run from scrimmage....

Cody Chrest leads receivers with 13 catches for 185 and 1 TD with a long of 45....Ify Adeyi is next with 6 for 53 and 4 other WRs have 3-4 catches each for about 15-16 yds per catch.....

Defense has 3 INTs two of which were Pick 6s one for 49 and the other for 75)...also 19 TFLs, 4 sacks, 8 breakups and 5 hurrys....

They have a very effective placekicker in Seth Morgan with 13/13 PATs and 1/1 FGs but that one was for 50....

They have two kick off specialists who have split duties almost evenly.....Pavon looks to be the long kicker and Hearn the short kicker....net yardage is about 40 yds....ie, receiving team starts at about the 25...about half are touchbacks...

The bottom line is the Bears will have their paws full and the o-line must have a good game protecting Breylin and the defense has to tackle sure-handed and plug the running lanes....special teams look to be key....Bears have to avoid dumb penalties....we cannot give BearKats unearned first downs....

I look for this to be (maybe hope it will be) high scoring as we have so many scoring tools....then again a 50 yd Hayden Ray FG as time expires for a 109 win would be terrific....

I never bet against the Bears and it is at home....Bears 41-38...

If we don’t come out and compete in this game the OC, head coach or both need to be looking for new jobs after the season.

This team is embarrassing they are all soft, cancel the damn season. Yea I might sound too tough but this being mediocre every season is getting old. That’s why we can’t get fans in the stands on a consistent basis, that’s why we will always be last when it comes to support in the state, that’s why things will never change. We need winners who will do anything to WIN and we DO NOT have that POINT BLANK PERIOD.

The home side stands are pretty full.

Our play calling is horrible.
Sideline pass.
Sideline run.
Run up the middle
Plus let’s wear out our all Americans on routes and not use them.
Wait. Throw to them on the sideline.

I'm beginning to agree with you! We don't players who want to be mediocre, we want champions! I don't want to be worried about whether or not we will even make the playoffs each year. I want to worry about what seed we will be in the playoffs! I'll always be a Bear fan, but I want more!

 I CANNOT BELIEVE YALL ARE BLAMING THE PLAYERS WHEN THIS GROTESQUELY SMELLS OF INEPTITUDE FROM THE COACHING STAFF, WE HAVE PLAYERS IN THE SECONDARY WHO ARE GETTING BURNT LIKE TOAST AND ARE SEEING THE FIELD EVERY WEEK IN ALL PHASES OF THE GAME. WE ARE NOY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE ENTIRE ROSTER AS WELL AS PREDICTABLE PLAY CALLING!!!!
#1 TURNOVERS!!!! Quarterback
CANT THROW PICKS EVERY WEEK WHICH HE DOES!!! OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR DUDE!!!! IF WE IN THE STANDS KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING DISGUISES IT BETTER!!! TO GET BACK TO OUR SECONDARY I UNDERSTAND WE LOST AN NFL TALENT BUT LOSING COACH SCALES AND HIS KNOWLEDGE ON THE FIELD AND PLAYING THEE GUYS WHO ARE PLAYING BEST, but this BRING YOUR OWN GUYS CRAP AND PLAY THEN NO MATTER WHAT IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO NOT BEAR FRUIT!!!
Go bears but if they don’t get it right in the office they get what they get

That quarterback that throws pics in each has accounted for the majority of our yardage! Go figure! How about the many drop passes!!! 42 yards rushing, what the heck!!!! That quarterback has been sacked more than any of the quarterbacks in the ASUN!!! Some OL we have! The high school game calling plays is ridiculous ! Breylin may throw pics for various reasons but he is the heart and soul of our points scored!

I won’t single out any one player cause you win and lose as a team but man oh man is this stuff gettin old. The leadership needs to have a reality check and very fast! I’m talking these coaches! And whoever is running the strength program needs to step it the hell up! When we had Briscoe we had some straight savages who played smash mouth football! And we don’t got that no more!! OC, head coach, oline coach and secondary coach need to be on their toes cause their time is running out if they don’t turn this ship around fast!

Ma Bear you are right. Since Breylin has been here he has had to run for his life on every single play. The Team needs motivation. Enough said.

[color=#0000BF][color=#0000BF][color=#0000BF]SOOOO ON THE SUBJECT OF BREYLIN RUNNING FOR HIS LIFE , HE’S HOLDING THE BALL ENTIRELY TO LONG TUCK IT AND RUN OR THROW IR AWAY, IN HIS ABSENCE LUKE HALE PASSES FOR 2 TDs 300 plus yards WE HAVE TWO ALL AMERICAN AT WR AND A STABLE OF VERY GOOD TO GREAT ONES BEHIND THEM!!! If you are getting 3 seconds to throw that’s adequate time!!!!!! But again I put this on the coaching staff’s feet this is a talented team we have little chance of a conference title with that loss and the playoffs may be just as hard to make Bears have to get it together !!!! Sam Houston looked liked they ran the same offense every time I have seen them....nothing really fancy....competent+ QB....RBs hard to get down.... just picks the defense apart passing....pretty disciplined style and play....

I lost count how many time we lost contain...seems like Sam owned the left side run...the strong side guard and tackle were very big fellows and hard to get around....got away with several holds that made a difference on the play....

How many tackles in backfield or at LOS did we miss? Some was due to shifty running backs but that has got to be much better to compete at high level....

Punt coverage seem to vacillate between over running the kick or way too soft ...either case Sam had too many easy returns for good yardage...I thought at first Hughes-Ford was deliberately trying to kick balls that would bounce wildly...then maybe he was being hurried and not hitting the ball well...or maybe a sore hamstring limiting what he could kick....no matter, wish we would have switched to high spirals.....gave up almost 80 yards in punt return yards....

DBs had some good breakups but too often the pass and catch was too easy.....D-line waged war pretty good but was getting worn down....still, they were not giving up in Q4...

No run game.....Sam did well at gap control and putting pressure on #3 but we have seen worse....however, the late Darius Hale TD run was a thing of beauty with blocking the edge and straight shot to the flag....great burst of acceleration...

Breylin had a pretty good game but the two INTs were self inflicted....note both came on 1st down....the first led to Sam's FG to go up 31-7 which we then promptly cut to 31-28 on next possession...2nd was just forcing a throw into a small space with lots of BearKats around as time was running short.......a perfect throw probably a UCA TD.. a risk maybe worth taking at that point but did not execute well....note we then held and quickly scored to make it 45-35...

Hudson and Winningham again had an all-star game......Perkinson had some nice catches...I only recall TEs only being targeted once...

With all that we still could have won....Q3 probably the best quarter we have a played on both sides of LOS this season....too bad this one got away.....

Did anyone get a clear view of the targeting call on Godfrey? Seemed like he hit the player while he was a runner and just at the time he could have run or thrown....note the call was confirmed by review....

Need to play better and win out.....Go Bears!!
