TAM/Corpus Christi was the only SLC team that scored in the D1 meet this week at Fayetteville as the men scored 2 points led by Hickel Woolery who threw the discus 56.19m (184' 4") for 7th place. Woolery was 2nd in Flight 2 of the prelims. Other SLC competitors were:

M100m: Cordero Gray, UTA, 10.28 in prelims; 10.41 in semis; did not advance to finals; 10th overall out of 29 qualifiers

Note that the event was won by Trindon Holliday of LSU in a blistering 10.00.

M200m: Cordero Gray, UTA, 21.11 in prelims; 21.17 in semis; did not advance; 16th overall out of 21 qualifiers

M400m: Darryl Hayes, SHS, 46.43 in prelims; 46..66 in semis; did not advance

M400m: Michael Courtney, SHS, 46.54 in prelims; did not advance

Note that event winner was Jonathan Borlee of Florida State at a quick 44.78...Borlee ran on the Belgian 4x4 Beiijng Olympic team that came in 5th.

M400mh: Lane Dennis, SHS, 50.71 in prelims; 50.63 in semis; did not advance, 13th out of 26

MHJ: Andrew Duncan, did not clear opening height (about 6' 9")

MSP: Kemuel Morales, Texas State, 18.46m ( 60' 6.75") in prelims...3rd in Flight 1: finished 10th in finals

MDT: Adonson Shallow, SELA, 56.79m ( 186' 4"), 4th in Flight 1; 11th overall in finals

W200m: Jasmine Walls, UTA, 23.61 in prelims; 23.33 in semis; did not advance; 11th overall out of 24

MDecathlon: Cory Roberts, SELA, 19th of 22 with 7255 points

It is a great personal achievement to even qualify for the D1 nationals. All of these athletes are to be congratulated as their marks are all very good...the competition levels are awesome.

It is not out of the question that UCA could have representation at the national meet within a very few years. It would have been nice to see the purple and gray at John McDonnell Field the past few days. Such track powerhouses as Rhode Island, Hawaii-Manoa, Central Michigan, Bethune-Cookman, Butler, Manhattan, Maryland-Eastern Shore and Charleston Southern all scored points. However, ASU and UALR are further along in their track programs than UCA and thay had no one qualify, so there is work to be done.
