It’s a milestone for collegiate football in the state of Louisiana as McNeese will become the first in-state FCS team to ever play the Tigers. LSU will also bring in Northwestern State for a game on Sept. 10 in 2011. The Cowboys and Tigers have met on the field of battle in other sports such as basketball and baseball on almost a yearly basis. “What an opportunity! This matchup is exciting for our student-athletes, coaches, fans, and community. It is certainly a game that everyone in Southwest Louisiana will be looking forward to with a lot of anticipation,” said McNeese athletic director Tommy McClelland. “I want to thank the LSU administration for making this happen; they have been great to work with.” LSU vice chancellor and director of athletics Joe Alleva said, “by scheduling McNeese and Northwestern State, we are keeping money in-state and at the same time providing financial assistance with the game guarantee to two of our fellow universities here in Louisiana. It makes sense for us to play games against in-state school when our schedule allows rather than bringing in an FCS school (formerly 1-AA) from another state.”... |

While LSU has played FCS-level opponents previously, these will be the first contests in the modern era of NCAA football between the Tigers and in-state Division I FCS teams. The LSU-Northwestern State game will be Sept. 10, 2011 in Tiger Stadium. It will be the first meeting since 1942 between the institutions in football. LSU leads the series 10-0, although Northwestern has a win over LSU - beating the LSU freshman team in 1924... Well if its good enough for Texas and good enough for Louisiana it must be good for .....nah, LSU and Texas do not have inferiority complexes ...great for Cowboys, Demons and Tigers and their fans.... |
