UNO announced they would be staying division 1, They would be an excellent addition to the Southland Conference, hope it happens. The school has 10,000 students, before Katrina hit it had 17,000 students, It was a former member of the Sun Belt conference, has a large amount of T.V. sets in New Orleans, and would be a short bus ride for most southland schools. This makes a lot more sense then the rumored Abilene Christian or Immaculate Word.

They have a club team that was supposed to be integrated into the athletic department when they landed in Division II. So it is possible that they would continue with that trend and transition them into athletics to play a full division I schedule. They play at historic Tad Gormley Stadium,

Tad Gormley is a fine facility and has hosted USA Olypmic Track and Field Trials and USA National Track and Field Championhips. This part of NOLA was badly flooded during Katrina.

How many football schools does SLC need?

JRK asked "how many schools do we need?" well I don't know about you but I could do without playing Becone College and other division 2 schools every year. Also Murray State and Eastern Illinois aren't exactly the most anticipated games. I would prefer to build rivalries with conference foes, where W's lead to playoffs, scheduling becomes easier, and the two non conference games can be an FBS school and a big FCS school (Montana, App. State, UNI).
