Looks like the Sunbelt is losing teams according to the conference:

Middle Tennessee State
Western Kentucky
New Mexico State
Florida Atlantic

..and most likely
Texas State to another conference.

What's to become of what's left of that conference?

It is only MTSU and FAU. Honestly, if it had just been FAU there may have been a loud round of cheers. Nobody cried over UNT or FIU either. Losing MTSU sucks and it means WKU will be looking. ASu is looking as well and my best guess is that Tulsa, UTEP, Rice and possible UTSA will end up in the MWC and 3 or 4 more Sun Belt teams will be moving to CUSA. If that happens it is almost certain that ASU would be moving. Troy is not really wanted in CUSA by several members and they have no presence in Arkansas/Memphis area.

I imagine for now we will add App. State and Ga. Southern and be as good or better on the field and in the stands. Those two are better than FAU right now and both average more fans than the schools that are leaving (it isn't even close with FIU and FAU). Heck, App. State would likely edge ASU for the attendance lead in the Sun Belt this year.

Conference realignment is getting really goofy. Winning and fan support mean very little while the size of you TV market means everything. Tulane to the Big East? They were about to drop football a few years ago.

All I want is a tight geographic conference of schools who play good football and have great fans.

Boise and SDSU in the Big East is just isane, btw.

Southland to the FBS! =D>

Lets:
Grab the strongest teams in the SLC.
Grab the strongest teams in the current Sunbelt that aren't leaving.
Grab the strongest teams in the current WAC.
-------------------------------------------
Call it the Southcentral Conference

There could be a fine conference from competitive view with Arkansas, Lousiana and Texas schools but none have large TV markets and ESPN demands TV numbers. No conferece except SEC and Big 10 are safe from turmoil.

They are east of California.

I'm hoping Saturday is Georgia Southern's last in the FCS.

I don't think the sunbelt is going anywhere. It will continue just minus two schools. Although I do love the idea of moving up, we don't currently have the budget or the mindshare of the little rock metro. Need a decade of good football like Appy state and Georgia southern, before we get invited.
