http://www.sportinglifearkansas.com/rex-nelson-the-rich-history-of-the-aic/ Pretty good summary...lots of great competition over the years...AIC was THE basketball conference in this part of the US for quite a while...lots of great defensive coaches and stifling defense....really a very fine track and field conference...winning times from 60s/70s still would often make NCAA D1 championship fields today.... I especially miss beating up on Tech.....and the always tough competition with the Muleriders.... |

I heard the cross town rivalry with Hendrix was pretty legendary. |

ASTC, Harding and Hendrix had some mighty fine XC races....Ricky Richardson and John Kelly for Bears were as tough as they come (both AIC conference champs) .....Jim Crawford, Cliff Clark and Joe Boyle for the Bison were always the guys to beat ...Cary Bradburn and Ron McDonald for the Warriors were also excellent harriers....Hendrix by far had the best course but has built all over it now....actually times they ran in the 60s would make it in NCAA D1 meet today and not be shabby... |
