R+L CARRIERS NEW ORLEANS BOWL Mercedes-Bens Superdome
New Orleans, LA
Nevada Wolfpack (7-5) vs. Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (8-4), 11:00 AM , 3-16

Rajin Cajun Head Coach Mark Hudspeth has a master's in school administration from UCA and was a graduate assistant coach in 1992; later he visited Estes several times as head coach of North Alabama in early 2000s. Nevada usually can put up a bunh of yards and points.

ZAXBY'S HEART OF DALLAS BOWL Cotton Bowl Stadium
Dallas, TX
Illinois Fighting Illini (6-6) vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (8-5), 1:00 PM (ESPN) , 18-35

Someday UCA will finally beat LTU but Big 10 Illini may be in for a tough game.

12/27/14:
HYUNDAI SUN BOWL Sun Bowl
El Paso, TX
Arizona State Sun Devils (9-3) vs. Duke Blue Devils (9-3), 2:10 PM (CBS), 36-31

RUSSELL ATHLETIC BOWL Florida Citrus Bowl
Orlando, FL
Oklahoma Sooners (8-4) vs. Clemson Tigers (9-3), 5:30 PM (ESPN), 6-40...yikes

ADVOCARE V100 TEXAS BOWL NRG Stadium
Houston, TX
Arkansas Razorbacks (6-6) vs. Texas Longhorns (6-6), 9:00 PM (ESPN), 31-7

Hoping for former UCA star and Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong to have a great game so he can have another D1 winning season.

12/31/14:
CHICK-FIL-A PEACH BOWL Georgia Dome
Atlanta, GA
Ole Miss Rebels (9-3) vs. TCU Horned Frogs (11-1), 12:30 PM (ESPN), 3-42

Tempe, AZ
Washington Huskies (8-5) vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-6), 10:15 PM (ESPN), 22-30

Pokes will have to play like the OU game to win; Bears play OSU in Stillwater next September in 2nd game....are we sure we want to play these guys next fall? Their FR QB and WRs looked awfully good...hope our pass D can step up a couple notches from this past season.....

1/4/15:

GODADDY BOWL Ladd-Peebles Stadium
Mobile, AL
Toledo Rockets (8-4) vs. Arkansas State Red Wolves (7-5), 9:00 PM (ESPN), 63-44

With the new playoff system now in place these bowl games are
meaningless...FBS schools consider 6-6 an accomplishment and FCS
schools look at it as mediocre at best.

As a UCA alum and former teammate of mine, I'll be pulling for Charlie
in this game.

Well, I understand what you mean but there are three pretty big benefits for the FBS teams.......(a) 15 extra practice days in addition to spring football, (b) more TV exposure and (c) for many a decent payday for the program.....

How long do you think it will take FBS to move to 8 teams in their "playoff"?

Quiz: What bowl this year has the best "cash" gift for players? (NCAA allows a certain level of gifts for players.....often electronics but also gift cards.)...

The playoffs have not diminished the value or importance of bowl games for many reasons. I do wish they would require 7 wins to qualify though.

First of all, there is not a legitimate playoff until every conference is guaranteed a spot. Inviting only four based on a committee is only slightly better than the old BCS system.

Second, bowls are still a great time for fans and players. You know it is just one trip and it is a fun way to cap a successful season.

Third, it is a chance to play on national TV when nobody else is on. That kind of exposure is valuable.

Finally, it is great for the aforementioned extra practices. It is also a great recruiting tool when battling a team that rarely goes to a bowl.

Just saw Charlie's post game interview on the Longhorn Network. I don't think spring practice will be a picnic in Austin. He was very unhappy.

I would expect nothing less.....the D started off well but seemed to lose energy before half and the offense needs to get better......he needs a couple years to instill the right culture..Mack left the cupboard pretty bare it seems.........

Like all the self proclaimed experts thought.

The excuses for losing while still claiming their SEC dominance is quite amusing.

As to SEC bowl games.......using the Sagarin ratings after last conference championship games as the base, the games can be assessed as whether the SEC team over or under performed...for example, if Sagarin predicted a SEC win by 5 points and the SEC team won by 2, then they underperformed by 3. So, Mizzou was expected to beat Minnesota by 4 but won by 16 so they over performed by 12.

Following is the results from above analysis:

Over:

12 - Mizzou +4/+16
10 - Georgia +13/+23
9 - Arkansas +15/+24
9 - Tennessee +8/+17
8 - Texas A&M Even/+8
4 - South Carolina <1>/+3

Under:

7 - Florida +15/+8
11 - Alabama +4/<7>
15 - Auburn +12/<3>
15 - LSU +12/<3>
23 - Miss State +8/<15>
38 - Ole Miss <1>/<39>

This indicates that all SEC/East teams overperfromed vs expectations except for Florida. At lest the East stepped up versus their opponents while the West save for Arkansas andd A&M stumbled badly.

So the SEC East goes 5-0 while the SEC West goes 2-5. Certainly the bowl opponents of SEC West teams had better strength of schedules (SOS) for the season (avg 36 for West and 61 for the East) which is pretty noticeable. However, the SEC teams had regular season SOS of 6 while the East had 12...not very much difference overall. We dio nto knwo how East teasm would ahve done in bowl games vs higher SOS opponents or higher rated opponents but it is not their fault wqho they ended up playing......they may have lost but chances are the East would still have overperformed.
