This is what happens when state government does not exercise fiscal discipline and spends recklessly as Illinois has done for decades. They really have no options but pretty severe actions. Plenty of blame to go around but when a state loses jobs and population the downward spiral eventually leads to major crisis which is almost impossible to reverse. Illinois continues to lead US in net popluation loss with another 68,000 net loss durng year ending July 31, 2015. Although there has been small net job growth in recent years the state has lost about 15,000 manufacturing jobs and leads the Midwest in that category.

EIU is said to be laying off ALL adminstrative and professional staff for the month of March to have enough money to finish the semester.

Like a business, state governments have to run lean and spend within their means to avoid debacles.

Just sad. Reading some comments in the second article, the situation sounds pretty bleak.

Too bad more fans did not see Bears vs Eastern Illinois in 2012 when Jimmy Garopollo as a junior for Panthers played at Estes....now he wins games in the NFL such as today when San Fran thumped Vikings by 27-10 in playoffs...….Jimmy G only threw for 131 but the 9ers are now 14-3...we beat EIU in 2010 at Danville when Jimmy G did not play.....then again at Estes in 2012 when he was the starter...….

Some players you just know when you seen them they will get playing time in the NFL and Jimmy G was one of those....we threw everything at him that day (did get 3 sacks) but he was never phased...pretty smooth.....

There have been others....such as Ladarius Webb of Nicholls who played DB for Ravens 2009-2017...….the minute I saw him in warmups he looked special then we saw him run back kicks, punts, INTs, cover kicks and hit harder than most anyone I have even seen.....he alone was well worth the price of a ticket.....

Nov 17 at Central Arkansas 29 69 0 14 19 228 4 74 19-33-1 228 4 74 9 155 0 23 2 1 0 1 297 {Garopollo had all passing yards}

Jimmy G had longest pass of year vs UCA...74 yds....

Jimmy Garopollo leads San Fran to a 37-20 whalloping of Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay for the 2020 NFC Championship.

For those of us who like running the ball...………….Rodgers threw 31/39 for 326 while Jimmy threw 6/8 for 77...…….meanwhile the 49ers ran for 286...220 with their backup RB (Raheem Mostert) who came in after starter Deebo Samuel went down with and elbow injury......The Pack tallied 62 yards....

Seems like Jimmy G is something like 15-3 as a starter with SF....

I am guessing that he is the only Super Bowl QB to have played at Estes.....
