Bundrick Commits To UCA

Springdale Har-Ber linebacker Jacob Bundrick committed to play football for the University of Central Arkansas on Wednesday, Har-Ber coach Chris Wood said

Bundrick, a two-year starting linebacker for the Wildcats, helped lead Har-Ber to its first Class 7A state championship this season. He had seven tackles, including two sacks in the Wildcats’ 27-6 win over Fort Smith Southside in the championship game.

Bundrick was one of the staples for Har-Ber’s league-leading defense this season, totaling a team-high 92 tackles, including 30 solo, two sacks (including one for a safety), 11 quarterback pressures, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and an interception for a touchdown.

Offer, visits for Caruthers
Senior offensive lineman Cole Caruthers (Sugar Land, Texas/Clements) was offered by Central Arkansas on Tuesday [December 8th]. The 6-4, 250-pounder is also receiving interest from UTEP, Texas State, Lamar University and McNeese. UTEP is talking about scheduling an official visit along with Central Arkansas.

Blue Springs, MO — When the recruiting process didn’t go the way he’d anticipated, Blue Springs senior Jordan Chrisman took matters into his own hands.
“The recruiting was a lot slower than I’d hoped,” said Chrisman, the Wildcats Defensive Player of the Year, the unanimous Suburban Big Seven Defensive Player of the Year and the Simone Award committee’s Buck Buchanan Award winner, “so I made up a highlight reel and sent it to a bunch of schools.”
Within days, the Chrisman family phone was ringing off the hook.
One call especially intrigued the 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive lineman.
“I got a call from the defensive coordinator at the University of Central Arkansas,” Chrisman said. “I had always dreamed of going to the University of Arkansas, because my mom’s family is from Arkansas, and I went down there for a camp and they showed some interest, but nothing really came of it.
“But the coaches at Central Arkansas really seemed interested in me. When I talked to their defensive coordinator, we really hit it off. They put an offer on the table and now, my dream is coming true – I made a verbal commitment and I’m going to get to play college football.

From today's ADG:

Magnolia senior tailback/cornerback L.J. Berry has orally committed to Central Arkansas, Magnolia Coach Robert Day said. As a senior, Berry rushed 140 times for 1,113 yards and 15 touchdowns and returned 2 interceptions for touchdowns. Day said Berry, 5-10, 190 pounds, will play cornerback for the Bears.

Nice stats but still wish we could get some six foot, six-one size dbacks.

I'll take a 5-10 guy who knows what he's doing over a 6-0 guy who needs work every time. How high up the top of your head is doesn't matter nearly as much as instincts, speed, jumping ability, etc. A 5-10 guy with a 34" vertical is the same thing as a 6-foot guy with a 32". It only really comes into play on jump balls anyway.

Height to me is about the most overrated thing out there. Nathan Brown is shorter than Robbie Park, Eric Ware is shorter than Joseph Harris, Brent Grimes is shorter than CJ Chaten and Larry Hart is shorter than just about everybody who plays that position. And so on and so on.

Eric Berry (any relation?), the kid from Tennessee who is considered the top prospect and one of the first couple picks in the draft, is a 5-11 DB.

What I like is that the kid has also been a running back and comes in at 190 pounds already. For comparison, Gambles was listed at 174 this season. At 190 as a freshman, figuring that will go up after some time with Briscoe, a guy like this sounds like the kind who can come in and be physical and jam guys and bump them off routes. Oh, and tackle.

The fact that he returned two INTs for TDs sounds promising as well.

More from the Chrisman story linked above:

Quote:
“That was always a dream – to have football help pay for my education. And I get to do it at a great Division I school, and it’s just 25 minutes from my grandpa’s house. I think he’s more excited than I am.”

Chrisman’s grandfather, Milton Owens, just lives a stone’s throw from Conway, Ark., the home of UCA.

“He lives in North Little Rock,” Chrisman explained. “He already went out and bought a UCA hoodie and T-shirts. I know he’ll be at every game. It’s going to be great to have family down there.”

well.

This thread is none of my business and I hate to butt in, but I was reading and thought I would respond to a couple of your points that I agree and disagree with.

I do agree with your general point that a smaller guy with instincts, hips, and ability to play is more desirable than a bigger guy who is stiff and/or has trouble breaking on the football; but I disagree that a "5-10 guy with a 34-inch vertical is the same as a 6-0 guy with a 32-inch vertical."

For starters, vertical jump tests are dependent on many variables and two inches one way or the other could reverse from one day to the next...the 5-10 kid who jumps 34 one day could jump 30 the next, and the 6-0 kid who jumped 32 could jump 35...you never know. Proper conditioning and weight training can have a big impact as well.

But one thing you do know for sure is the 5-10 kid will likely always be 5-10 (unless he's still growing) and the 6-0 kid will likely always be 6-0...and it's not just head height either...taller kids usually have longer arms, bigger hands and create more desirable leverage...all things equal, or close to equal, I would take the bigger kid just about every time. SFA had a JC transfer this year who played corner at 6-3 and he wasn't a burner and probably not as good an athlete as some of the smaller corners in the SLC...but he had tremendous arm length and could match up with the bigger receivers in the league.

You kinda make it sound like all 5-10 guys are better athletes than 6 footers. With all the 6-2 to 6-5 guys showing up at wide receivers nowadays the 5-10 guys don't always measure up. Arm length on a 6-2 receiver makes up for less vertical leap. With all the football I've been watching over the last few weeks it's pretty evident to me that these tall long-armed receivers have done rather well against the short dbs.

Not saying either one of us is right or wrong, just providing a different viewpoint.

I've heard a lot of people wondering why the Hogs haven't taken more interest in Hocker's kickoff ability. I assumed he had more offers than just us now and ASU. That youtube you've got linked there... I wonder who the holder was because he did an excellent job himself.

We have an open punter position and need more depth at all kicking positions.

From the ESPN Eval
Quote:
Hocker is a super explosive kicker/punter. He may have the strongest pure leg in the nation. Hocker had the single best punt charting session of the National Invitational Scholarship camp with an average of 49.5 yards and a 4.45 hang time during a 10 ball punting session. He does not...

All of the kickoffs they show (from the 30) went to the goal line or farther.
