HUGE game this weekend! SELA is 3-0 in SLC play and currently in 1st place. It is their Homecomeing and they are coming off a bye week. They are going to be fired up and playing lights out!
I wish this game was in Conway, but I have faith in the Bears! They are going to come out focused and determined to win this game.

GO BEARS!

The games don't get any bigger than this one. SELA has played very well
so far this season. The game is at their place, so it will be hard to get a win
there.

Brief stats this week: ( conference only)

Points per game: UCA 29.2 SELA 27.7
Scoring defense SELA 22 UCA 23
Total offense: UCA 365 SELA 348
Total defense: SELA 287 UCA 384
Rushing offense: SELA 120 UCA 115
Rushing Defense: SELA 93 UCA 180
Pass offense: UCA 250 SELA 228
Pass Defense: SELA 194 UCA 204
First downs: UCA 99 SELA 59
Penalities: UCA 56 yds per, SELA 98 yds per game

Looks about even huh? But...

SELA 27 NWST 22
SELA 31 Lamar 21
SELA 25 McNeese 24 (two point conversion win)

Two big things to consider.

SELA's strength of schedule. Weak so far. UCA has played the big three while SELA has only played McNeese. They've got SAM, SFA, and UCA still to go.

Looking at that fact, they barely have any players in that register in the SLC leaderboards. Their QB is pretty good but shut him down and it just might be over with. Their punt returner gets 21 yds per return BUT against their SOS, no wonder.

Much respect to the Lions but the line of this thing is 16 but even a 1 point win matters for both teams.

Bears by at least 7.

Seems we always have a tough time down there regardless of how good they may or may not be. If we don't do a better job of wrapping up and tackling it will be a long day.

I'm sure that some of our guys may have been looking past Lamar and on to SELA. I'm sure the coaches will remind them of that in practice this week and they will be very prepared to go down there and become one step closer to SLC champs!

After only playing one half of football this week, the offense should be well rested!
(glass half full)

 UCA had the ball for about 6 minutes in the entire second half..who knows how little in the first half. My wife and I were wondering if our offense couldn't get on track because they weren't out on the field long enough to get their cleats warm.

Just looked it up. UCA had it for a total of about 22 minutes all game.

54 rushing attempts for Lamar.
28 pass attempts for UCA av. 10 yds per pass.

NO wonder UCA's offense stayed off the field!

Speaking of cleats. Lamar seemed to slip down several times in the game.

That field is slippery. I noticed coaches last year complaining about it in their weekly game reviews. I wonder if it will get better with wear or if we will have to replace it to avoid injuring players. :?

Sam Houston State, SE Louisiana players suspended

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfoot/news/newstest.aspx?id=4537743

Quote:
Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Southland Conference has imposed one-game suspensions for Sam Houston State linebacker Darius Taylor and Southeastern Louisiana defensive back Kevin Roberts for illegal hits in their teams' games Oct. 13.

Looks like SELA will be down one defender this week.

This is the part of the NCAA rule that bothers me:

Quote:
NCAA rules require conferences to automatically review video of unnecessary roughness acts that target the head or neck to determine if additional sanctions are necessary, whether or not officials call a penalty at the time.

IMO, if a player is later suspended by a review committee for a hit that wasn't called by a ref then the ref closest to the play should also be suspended for a game. If they don't do their job right then they should suffer the consequences just like the player making the illegal hit.

Trying to find a link to watch Saturday's game... Anyone have any ideas? I found this link:

http://www2.selu.edu/thesoutheasternchannel//lionslive/

But I am unsure if they will carry the game...?

That should be the correct link.
