Who is Glenville State College?

I was already working on putting together some information on GSC, then TylerMooreUCA kind of prodded me to do it maybe a little more in depth.

Last year —

  • Finished 8-3 overall, 7-1 in conference to win it
  • Outscored opponents 373-254
  • Led by senior, All-American running back Jerry Seymour; averaged 207 yards per game!
  • OLB Terrell Parker (junior) and DE Eric Turner (senior) were 1st team All-WVIAC selections (West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference)

Season so far —

  • 2-2 record, 1-1 in the WVIAC
  • Feeling the effects of not having Seymour back in terms of wins, but still able to run the ball
  • Turnovers are killing them; 16 through four games – Ouch! Statistically —
  • GSC averages 29.5 ppg and is very balanced offensively in yardage and average a very respectable 429 ypg.
  • The starting QB (James McCants) has a td:int of 1:7.
  • McCants and the two running backs run the ball for over 200 yards per game.
  • 16 turnovers through four games. Ouch.
  • Don’t throw to the RBs often, just six catches for a total of 7 yards in four games.
  • In the last three games, 117 points given up.

Last game —

  • Lost to conference foe Fairmont State, 50-37
  • McCants did not start due to a sore shoulder, but eventually entered the game due to an injury to the backup and an ineffective performance by the 3rd stringer.
  • Threw two pick sixes.
  • Blocked a punt for a touchdown.
  • Only gave up seven second-half points
  • Game took four hours and two minutes!
  • GSC dominated statistically EXCEPT for turnovers
  • 10 total GSC turnovers, includes seven picks and three fumbles
  • The Pioneers forced zero

Players to watch —

  • RBs Brian Harden and DeAndre Johnson Harden is averaging 150 per game. Johnson is averaging 6.6 per carry and has scored three TDs. Both ran for over 100 yards last week.
  • QB McCants Only threw four interceptions all of last year; has thrown seven this year.
  • WRs James McDonald (71ypg), Xavier Glenn (60ypg), David Russell (32ypg), Antwan Stewart (18ypg) Stewart was leading returner at WR, but he’s only played in three games and has just eight catches. Glenn is also their kick return specialist, averaging 29.2 yards per return with a long of 62. McDonald and Glenn had 99+ yards last week.
  • OLB Parker – Already has four interceptions on the year – as a linebacker; 3rd in tackles with 25 behind…
  • Other linebackers Nicholas Monroe (28 tackles) and Kaleb Lawrence (26 tackles). Lawrence has also forced 2 fumbles and blocked a punt.
  • Scott Sears (6’3” 210#) Defensive Lineman Sears must be the definition of speed rusher. At just 210 pounds, he leads the Pioneers with four sacks and seven tackles for loss.
  • K Colston Bayless – 3-for-3 on field goal attempts; 13-of-16 on PATs. The longest field goal made was 26 yards.
