The Bears are up as the first season-preview article from the Sulphur Daily News.
While Smothers will play a key roll this year, Conque feels the defense will more than carry their fair share of the load with eight returning starters lead by SLC Freshman of the Year Jonathan Woodard (6-6, 271lbs) who had 36 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss and seven sacks. Woodard will join seniors Markeith Gaines, Matt Hornbuckle, junior T.J. Randall and sophomore Derek Floyd to make a formidable front line.
“The strength of our football team is going to be our defense,” Conque said. “We have eight starters back and 15 young men that have started for us.
“We are deep, we are long and we are athletic there.”
