As I was looking over and studying the GSC Preseason Football Release (good read) I found in the Bear Newsstand on the front page, I noticed that highly thought of Tech only has 10 games scheduled this season, as well as North Alabama, UAM and OBU.

Now last year I think I remember we went and scheduled that difficult non-conference Iowa Wesleyan to add an 11th game so that would not penalize us as far as Regional Voting at the end of the season, which playing that bad of a school may have hurt us just as much looking back on that now. My point being, with NO Valdosta State or North Alabama on tech's schedule, if they slip up 1 or 2 games tops, could this lack of an 11th game come back to bite them when all is said and done?

Anyone one else have any comments on this potential situation. If tech goes undefeated I am sure that would make this a moot point, but a 1 loss or 2 loss season and it might get dicey.

Some things I noticed while reading:

1) There is a kick-blocking spot on the preseason squad! Amazing. Don't get me wrong, deep-snappers are important (just as the Giants), but preseason accolades?

2) "Central Arkansas center Lance Ancar makes his second consecutive Pre-Season All-GSC team and was tabbed Pre-Season All-America by Lindy’s." Unfortunately for UCA, Ancar actually plays for North Alabama.

3) UCA and Harding each return 18 starters! Couple that with the return of Hopson, and the past (albeit a few years) experience of Reil, and I'm pretty pumped.

4) The DE transfers we got are 6'5"! If they are as fast as I've heard, that immediately improved the defense. The secondary-when healthy- was solid last season and with more pressure on the QB, they will only be better.

To sum it up, August 25 can't get here fast enough. The countdown on the homepage says 23 days, 3 hours, 54 minutes (and ticking down)!

I was talking to coach Briscoe and he says that the defensive ends they have both run 4.5 40's and both are very physical. So maybe this is the year that the Bear defense can stop a running game.

gosh that would so be a nice change.

I'm guessing a possible loss of a for sure All Conference D Lineman mightn ot help tech's situation either. I am guessing they will still be good, with or without, Cursh.

I was a defensive lineman on the team, and I will tell you this- Ford and Atkinson could get playing time at any college in the nation, D-II, D-IAA, or D-IA. Ford especially is a freak. Look for big things out of those guys.
