CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears were already scheduled to meet the in-state rival Arkansas State Red Wolves next season in Jonesboro.

However, the 2020 pandemic has altered those plans slightly. The Bears and Red Wolves will now meet two years in a row as UCA athletic director Brad Teague and ASU athletic director Terry Mohajir have agreed to a Sept. 19 matchup this season at Centennial Bank Stadium.

Awesome! Glad to hear it! Was just thinking of this today! Hopefully UCA will be well prepared after playing two games on the road. I will say, I think A-State wants revenge. Hopefully the bears will pull out all the stops! It will be a close game I bet!

If the Bears enter this game undefeated, and that is a distinct possibility, then lookout!!! It`s gonna be a helluva game either way though.

A-State HC was asked about playing UCA in first interview. Excited about playing UCA and said the ideal schedule would be playing UCA or UAPB, Memphis and Arkansas, every year. Think you will see that happen down the road, and you will probably also play the Razorbacks if their AD has anything to say about it, and he does.

Have not seen much about how UCA is doing to post on the Other Arkansas College and University forum on Hogville, but so far it is going as expected at A-State.

While they lost a consensus all-american at WR, and one of the best athletes in the country at AB--and both should be on an NFL roster this year, everyone else returns and they should be one of the very best offenses in G5, and it is showing up so far in fall camp. They are looking very good.

It was expected that Logan Bonner would return to his starting role at QB, but so far Layne Hatcher (Alabama) has refused to just step aside, and according to practice reports it is a dead heat and both are playing at a very high level.

While they returned their 2-deep at the other positions on offense, some GT's-- WR Rashauud Paul (Texas A&M), WR Javan Hawes (Cincinnati), OG Avery Demmons (JC) and TE Giles Amos (Alabama) have shown they have enough talent to perhaps bump someone out.

WR is the strength of the offense with super athlete Jonathan Adams (6-3,220) and sure handed Brandon Bowling (5-9, 190) expected to start. The other spot is open with Dahu Green (Oklahoma), Rashauud Paul (Texas A&M) and Jefferson Foreman in a close battle.

On defense the DL,--headlined by NG Forest Merrill (6-1, 338, 4.8'),and maybe their strongest player ever, who is one of the best players in the country at any position (the likes of Georgia and Alabama could not handle him, and Saban said after trying he though they had OL issues) , is again expected to be the strength.

In addition to Merrill, it looks like returning starters LB Jeffmario Brown (6-3, 235), LB Caleb Bonner (6-1, 224), S Antionia Fletcher (5-11, 190), CB Jarius Reiomoneng (5-11, 180) and NB Anthony Switzer (6, 190) will hold on to their starting positions but nothing but uncertainty beyond them.

They do have some very talented young players, and added some talented transfers, and while their DC likes their talent and thinks they will get better and better, it will take a little time.

So the bottom line for you, Memphis, K-State, and Tulsa is I know you will not be able to stop them from scoring more points than you want them to score--I predict they will average 40+ point for the season, just not sure the same does not apply for them when it comes to you.

Discounting the impact of the virus, this could be Anderson best team at some point.

They should be up and going by the time conference play rolls around, and should contend for the SBC title, even though they play Louisiana and AppSt at their place.

They held their first scrimmage today and their skill players on offense are certainly as good as advertised. Maybe better.

Defense definitely has some talent, and former Bear Vidal Scott (6-2, 295), was one of the standouts. Very, very quick for his size.

That is it for my observations, and look forward to following your outstanding team here. Hope there is a season, because if there is, it should be another a good one for both A-State and UCA.

Stay healthy, and feel free to join us on the Other Arkansas College and University forum on Hogville with updates on your Bears.
