Just wanted to get the discussion going with only 4 days to gameday.

Ole Miss hit the transfer portal hard. Coach Kiffin announced that Altmyer would go first this week at QB instead of Dart. Little less mobile but better game manager imo.

Very talented across the board. Will leave the number crunching to someone else but wanted to get the discussion started.

Go BEARS

Looking for improvement across the board…
According to ESPN, Ole Miss has a 99.9% of
coming away with a win. Will be a very difficult
challenge for the Bears , but I’m sure they will
give great effort and represent UCA with class.

GO BEARS

Would love to see us lean on the run and try to take advantage of the PA Pass. I think our backfield is loaded enough that we can move the ball a little bit on the ground and force them to honor it. Not sure straight drop backs are going to be the way to go against a very talented Rebel DL.

Who all is making the trip? We'll be there

For what its worth....

"Ole Miss vs Central Arkansas Prediction, Line
Ole Miss 48, Central Arkansas 10
Line: Ole Miss -34, o/u: 65
ATS Confidence out of 5: 2"

Seems obvious that Ole Miss as a normally solid SEC team has good talent, good coaching and plenty of experience....a 28-10 over Troy maybe disappointed Rebs fans...based on the 2021 end of season ratings Troy at home would be favored to beat UCA by 14 .....

Would not surprise me if UCA defense plays well and gives Ole Miss lots of problems thru Q3...depth on a warm night will eventually come into play.....those extra 23 FBS scholarships are real....it would really help the D if the offense can sustain some drives and put some points of the board....

What we absolutely cannot do and have any expectations of good results is for Bears to beat Bears with penalties, turnovers, missed tackles, missed blocks and special team breakdowns....make Ole Miss win and not give them short fields....

I will be looking for offense to figure out how to throw more effectively which probably means better protection via roll outs, misdirection, wheel routes, etc. and keep Ole Miss off balance....Ken Hatfield won many games with misdirection plays.....saw them run about 15 straight traps for 5 yards not using the same hole twice in a row....LBs had no idea where to fill next....

...and let's not get serious injuries as we have to start winning the following week for sure....

Go Bears!!

PS.....have some success throwing and Hale and James may have big nights running...

Head coach and strength and conditioning coach has got to go, I said this last season. We need dawgs and that is something this staff does not produce.

Summary stats

UCA v Ole Miss:

Rush: 40-102 (really 39-126 excluding the punt snap miscue) vs 36-231
Pass: 14-31/131 (no TDs and 2 INTs) v 18-32/277, 4 TDs, i INT
Total Offense: 233 v 508

Hale, James and Smith had a hard earned 29-104 rush and 3-20 pass receptions...Barnes made some plays with 5-43 receptions and 3-52 punt return yardage....

Caughron punted well with 5/40avg and 2 inside 20...McElvain avg 34 on 2 short field punts....Ole Miss punter was terrific with 3/46avg and one inside 20...

Ole Miss PK was 6/6 PATs and 1/1 FG....Hayden Ray hit a nice 31 yarder ...

Credit Ole Miss KO man as we only were able to return 2 for an avg of 12 yards...

Oh yes, Ole Miss had problems all night get stats updated.....not sure I have seen P-5 game stats so tardy in being updated....

I have honestly never been more embarrassed in this team as I am now, man this is a horrible feeling. Can’t even feel proud to say I’m a UCA Bear smh.

Getting whipped 59-3 by what probably will turn out to be a good SEC team is disappointing for the Bears and Bears fans.

Next week at Idaho State is a much better measure of where the Bears are.....ISU lost to San Diego State by 38-7 and I'm pretty sure SDSU is not Ole Miss in any way....Bears have to get offense more productive asap and d-backs have to step up also....not having Richmond at Ole Miss did not help .....got to get the ball into the three RBs hands more and more ways .....it was good to see the TD pass going to TE even though penalty for the apparent pick nullified the score....Bears season now starts for sure.....not too many people would have picked 2-0 at this point and not many more would even have been 1-1 as likely....now need to go 7-2 or better the rest of the way....big ask based on what we have seen so far.... to me EKU has looked the best out of the gate and JSU looks to be a task even with Bears playing well ...KSU looks human after all....take one game at a time....

However, consider how some other FCS teams fared...we are not alone in disappointment at this point...

1 - FCS #19 Kennesaw State @ Cincinnati...10-63

KSU scored a couple times but about the same outcome as at Oxford...

2 - McNeese @ Rice, 10-52

What happened to the Cowboys? Rice is certainly not Cincy or Ole Miss...

3 - Tarleton @ TCU, 17-59

As we know Tarleton is pretty tough....maybe Frogs are just that good but wow...

4 - FCS#18 SFA @ La Tech, 17-52

Jacks have to be disappointed....LTU plastered them and LTU was whipped by Mizzou the week before (who was completely beat by K-State Sat by 40-12)...surely SFA will not be ranked this coming week after this....

5 - Southern Utah @ #13 Utah, 7-73

Utah probably a notch better than Ole Miss so no surprise in a big spread....still, 67 points is a beat down....

6 - there were other blowouts of FCS by FBS although likely not having the expectations of UCA

Indiana State @ Purdue, 0-56
Western Illinois @ Minnesota, 10-62
Norfolk State @ James Madison, 7-63
Portland State @ Washington, 6-52
Wagner @ Rutgers, 7-66
Alcorn State @ Tulane, 0-52
Southern @ LSU, 17-65

7 - on the other hand there were some much closer games than expected...

Furman @ #5 Clemson, 12-35
Gardner-Webb @ Coastal Carolina, 27-31
Idaho @ Indiana, 22-35
Howard @ South Florida, 20-42

8 - Then again there were the FCS victors...

#8 Incarnate Word @ Nevada, 55-41...good win for IWU but Nevada struggled in their first game also...

FCS#15 Holy Cross @ Buffalo, 37-31...

FCS#16 Weber State @ Utah State, 35-7...

link below has the box score from the Bears previous visit to Oxford in 2012.

https://olemisssports.com/sports/footba ... score/3685

To save some time....UCA was ahead at half, within a TD until the 4th qtr, against an Ole Miss team that won 7 games and went to a bowl.

The standard should be the same....competitive and well prepared, no matter the opposition.

Current team appears to have major issues, some were listed above.

Things need to change in a hurry, or it will be a very long season and then more changes will be needed.

I hope the Bears can turn it around this week.

You're comparing two TOTALLY different Ole Miss teams. Hugh Freeze's first game back in 2012. Program wasn't in a great spot (granted they ended that year as a good team).

This year's ole miss squad is likely the best team we have ever played and likely the best team Ole Miss has ever fielded with the exception of maybe last year. That offense put up 50+ points 3 times last year and got significantly better talent-wise this year in the portal on both sides of the ball.

Chill the hell out
