First meeting in football.......if you are going to the game beware of the heavy traffic on the interstate ..ATL highways are near lunacy...

KSU game notes at link below:

https://ksuowls.com/news/2022/10/13/football-owls-and-bears-battle-in-asun-showdown-at-fifth-third-bank-stadium.aspx

Some good poop on the team and game day...such as...

"The Owls enter week seven in the top-3 in multiple FCS categories. The team currently ranks second in the nation in average time of possession (36:37) and third in fumbles recovered (8), fewest penalty yards (149) and fewest penalty yards-per-game (29)"

KSU schedule so far as follows (1-1 ASUN, 2-3 overall):

@Birmingham vs Samford, 17-27 loss (Samford 5-1)
@ Cincinnati, 10-63 loss
Wofford, 24-22 win (Wofford 0-6)
@ Jax State, 28-35 loss (JSU 5-1)
North Alabama, 40-34 win (UNA 1-4)

Wins would have been expected (although UNA is a pretty tough out) and losses are to teams having good season....Bearcats definitely a tough out..and other losses were to solid teams in close games....KSU does not lose often at home...

Stats vs UNA last week (attendance only about 4500):

Score by Q....7-3...10-6....17-13....27-27....34-34....34-40 ( 2 OTs)

KSU TD drives....18 plays/75yds/7:15 TOP....5/82/2:01....10/72/3:22....4/25....5/25...

2/3 FGs, long 36

KSU/UNA
Rush: 69-277 (291 gross)-3 vs 36-68 (100 gross)-1
Pass; 13-18-172-2-0 vs 15-27-326-3-2
TO: 449 vs 394
3rd downs: 10/21 vs 4/11
4th downs: 3/3 vs 0/1
Redzone%: 7/9 vs 2/2

KSU:
QB Xavier Sheperd .....all passing plus 34-114 and 3 TDs.....286 TO for the QB!
Yesiah Clemons rush 7/51, long 36....
7 others carried the ball for positive yards...
Isaac Foster 5-76 receptions, 1 TD, long 40 plus 4/36 rush
Xavier Hill 3-46 recepts, 1 TD, long 26
3 others had at least one catch

2022 to date stats:

https://ksuowls.com/documents/2022/10/8/KSU_Season_Stats_Week_6__1_.pdf

Owls have run 304 run plays and 73 pass plays....rushed for 1100 yds and passed for 600yds...

Defense has given up 1500 rush yds and 600 yds passing...

2nd QB Jonathan Murphy has run for 361 and passed for 202....QB Shepard run for 219 and passed for 370....

12 different players have 5 or more rush attempts....

Owls and opponents have each lost 8 fumbles but Owls lost 1 INTs and grabbed 5....

Transfers mostly FCS programs....

Only 1 upperclassmen LB on roster....8 UC DBs....11 UC DL....most in 260 range but a couple in 285+...8 UC OL....typical size we see....

QB: Slight edge to KSU
RBs: Slight edge to UCA
WRs: Slight edge to UCA
OL: Edge to KSU but UCA improved each of last two games
DL: Slight edge to UCA
LB: Even
DBs: Slight edge to KSU
Kickers: Even
Kick return: Edge to UCA

Sagarin has UCA at 49 ratings (167th in D1) and KSU at 48 (174)....the 2-point home field advantage gives KSU a 1-point edge....

Hoping defense reverts back to who we saw stop APU's run attack and dual threat QB....

Beras typically play well on the road (have to ignore the Ole Miss game this season)....

Offense and o-line have been improving up tohis point every game (once against discounting the Ole Miss game)...

Kennesaw is not North Dakota State BUT rarely loses at home...they are more like a Mo State or SEMO or APU.....but better than Lindenwood on defense at least....

In the best cases, Bears can have a good run game (and short pass game) to run clock and drive down the field for scores....O-line will need a very good day....defense plays more like the APU game (anyone know what happened last week?) or even SEMO/MSU game.....NO special teams busts and some good return yardage....

Count on KSU playing well.....if we get the above done I think we can escape with something like a 34-31 win.....UNA put up 34 and held KSU to 40....

If we play like Lindenwood on defense......we probably come home 2-5...

I think the Bears will play well in wake of last week's disaster...

Go Bears!!

Pretty dominant over a pedestrian kennesaw team. offense played well.

UNA at home in two weeks. We SHOULD over power them but who knows with this jekyll and hyde team. If you get to 4-4, three games against quality teams could get you somewhere. Playoffs started today

Exceeded my expectations today for sure and I thought they would play well...maybe playing Nicholls all those years taught us something about how to defend the triple option....shutting down all the options for most of the day was terrific defense...granted KSU appears to have issues with QB consistency....

Score and stats pretty much speak for themselves...we have lots of stars....

Now get healthy and be ready for UNA, an old rival.....

Go Bears!!

PS...KSU band sounded really good.....

I for one have very high expectations for the UCA FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
Sometimes it’s very hard to weed through all that happens during the
course of a game… and only look at the final score and then come to a
conclusion about how well your team played. Im guilty of it and willing
to admit that.

I will also admit that I haven’t watch one play of a Bear game this year.
I only had the opportunity to listen in on the radio when they played Peay.
After watching the Tennessee/Bama game yesterday, I can only imagine it was
pretty much identical in drama to the UCA/Lindenwood game… with both
teams trying desperately to win. One has to be the loser on the scoreboard,
but it doesn’t take anything away from the amount of effort the players gave.

I became a BEAR for life in the fall of 1976…
I bleed Purple and Sweat Gray…

GO BEARS
