North Alabama is 3-6 (1-4)

Have no idea what to expect
other than a slow start.

Expect a close game.....more on that later.... ratings will have us by 7-10 but that is just too much as UNA has been playing better......

The Bears can't play anything like they did last Saturday. The Bears will have to clean up their mistakes. Play selection needs to improve. Officiating as well. Does anyone have any thoughts? Please post.

I’m not sure what to expect from this team. I expect
the defense to play well except for the opening drive.
I expect the offense to sputter until the 4th qtr.
I expect 75-100 penalty yards. Other than
that, who knows? The punter will do his job

Like FOOT said, expect at least 75-100+ yards in penalties. I do have a feeling that the Bears might actually show up for this game and we win by 10+. If we don’t, all post season dreams will be gone and we will lose the last 2 games of the season.

Someone else needs to do a UNA scouting report this week as I am swamped....hopefully we will be more focused on the road this week....doubt this will be an easy game as UNA seems to be improving and the old D2 rivalry is still hanging around....defense needs to play well and finish on 3rd downs and not commit any stupid roughing and unsportsmanlike penalties....hoping Powell is back healthy...I would like to see Bears have Powell, Hale and James all in backfield at same time and make defense guess plus have any 2 of Barnes, Richmond and Butler as receivers....o-line play will be key.....Go Bears!!

Comparisons:

Total yardage:
UNA- 3789
UCA- 3536

Total Plays:
UNA- 701
UCA- 538

That is nearly 160 plays less with close to the same yardage.

Yards per play:
UNA- 5.4
UCA- 6.6

We had to have a higher yards per play to nearly equal their total yardage with 160 less plays.

PPG:
UNA- 25
UCA - 35

PPG Allowed:
UNA- 32
UCA- 25

First Downs:
UNA- Rushing- 80, Passing- 96, Penalty- 22
UCA- Rushing- 78, Passing- 82, Penalty 16

Passing game heavy looking at those first downs by stats above.

Rushing yards:
UNA- 1805. Allowing 1743.
UCA- 1713. Allowing 967.

Passing:
UNA- 2209. Av. 254 per game.
UCA- 1823. Av. 227 per game.

The UNA stats makes me think with so many more plays than UCA they are throwing short passes and aren't a deep threat too often.

Interceptions:
UNA- 10
UCA- 3

That's about one per game UNA is throwing. Maybe the deep threat is getting picked off? Or one of the over the middle passes bouncing off the receivers chest etc.

Common opponents:
Tarleton: UNA lost by 21. UCA lost by 2.
ACU: UNA lost 17. UCA won by 35.

It's UNA's Senior Day so they will be motivated for their outgoing players at home.

Summary: UNA seems to be getting their yards with short pass plays hence the nearly 200 more plays than UCA. Our run defense should stifle them and make them resort to mainly passing. If this happens then our coaches better plan accordingly to watch for the short passes over the middle etc.

Other interesting stats: Sacks and TFL:
UNA- Sacks allowed per game- 2 TFL allowed per game: 7
UCA- Sacks allowed per game- 2, TFL allowed per game: 5

UNA defense only has 11 sacks on the year. If our line can protect then we should have some open receivers for some good chunk yardage.

My prediction:
UCA 28
UNA 14

They’ve also played one more game than the Bears.

My two thoughts are this. Our D line does a good job of stopping the run and then on 3rd and even 4th down teams resort to fades and surprisingly burn us on them often. We just don’t seem to convert those plays or even call them. Lastly without Powell in the game we are middle of the pack in the UAC and a 500 team at best on the outside looking in. Teams have adjusted to him, so we need to get creative. I also know he was hurt Saturday so I’m just hoping he gets back in the game. Saturday is a must win.

I don’t know why our offense is so bland. Teams are able to sniff out dang near every play from watching and studying film because everything is the same each week!

Might be me, but this offense looks very simple..
Not a lot of motion or formations.

I love this site. Up 21-0. Pitched a first half shut out. And only complaints.
